I used an adjustable for my 30 day rule. I kept it on one setting (a lower one) the whole time. I thought I needed to learn in that fashion.

Regarding the strategies, one more could be added. (d) start lower and increase on subsequent passes. Can't remember where I read that, but it has become my preference.

For touch up work, I dial it back to low again. So far, it is the only way I have been able to tolerate any ATG work in some areas.

I kind of feel like using an adjustable in this fashion is a bit of a crutch. But, it makes me happy.

    (d) was covered in my (b) by "vice versa" but you're right -- it really needs to be mentioned as a completely separate approach of its own.

As far as using an adjustable as you do being "a crutch", that is actually how Gillette described the use of the adjustable feature in the early instruction pamphlets... changing the level for work on different areas. Gillette didn't describe changing settings for each pass, but then the standard way to shave then was one pass and some cleanup.

    March 5 SOTD:

    Razor: Razorock Hawk V2
    Blade: Kai Titan Mild
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft
    Lather: Arko Cool
    Aftershave: Irisch Moos
    Additional Care:
    Stirling Unscented PSB

I decided to leave the shavette home this morning, so I used the Hawk again. It does work pretty well in the dopp kit. Two passes and DFS, so not much to report. I hope everyone has a great day!

    A bit of irritation too.
I would call it a CCS plus. Need to work on that.
My wife just asked me why I was looking at that.
It looks worse than it is, but I thought so too.
The razor has a magnetic tray, and I use the wrapper of the blade on my finger to nudge the blade where it needs to go so I can triple check it is aligned. This was all user error. My wife cracked a Sweeney Todd joke right before I came out to the kitchen. I thought it was funny, she did too after a few minutes.
    I play to my strengths.
Da da da da, da da da.
    Merely a flesh wound.
Some of us are too stupid to quit.
    I’m blushing...
Some of us like to warm up before May.
While some chicks dig scars, Mrs. Gulch is getting a little tired of my antics.
The picture looks really bad, but all that blood was from a half inch by quarter inch spot where I filleted a flap of skin. The best part was that the only bandaids in the house were my daughter’s. Nothing says mainly like a cut with a razor that you put a Frozen bandaid on before leaving the house.

Cool razor, and well done! At least you can say you tried it.

John the SR and shavettes might not be for you but that is one gorgeous razor.

Yup. It’s a 1994 F150. Although it has the small V8, I don’t see me daily driving this
I have a car with the car seats in it. This one is not for kid hauling duty.
    Thanks, Clint. I did.

Fantastic picture Jim. Love the way the blue pops against the background. Do you find the blue harder to keep clean?

Why are weekends so short. Well at least I was able to get in a great shave to start the week. As expected CO Bigelow was easy to lather with the big Thäter providing a mountain of lather. The secret with this razor is to literally have the cap against the face and use a soft touch. Three passes and touch ups just missed the baby. A splash of Fine Platinum and I am off to fight Atlanta traffic. I hope everyone has a great Monday.

Just beautiful Mark. Seeing your General almost makes me wish I had not let mine get the patina. Almost. ;)

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Schick Proline AC
    Razor: RazoRock Black Hawk
    Brush: JR #41 badger
    Lather: C.O. Bigelow shave cream
Post: Witch hazel, Barbasol Pacific Rush aftershave

Went with the menthol Monday theme today. Easy and comfortable shave. The Hawk is a fun razor to use, particularly when you have more than a days' growth. Just mows it down with so much ease.

It will be a busy week so I hope my daily shaves provide a little structure and relaxation. Have a great day!

I did miss that in your post.

Such a 'fur flying time' going on, I'm rushing. Think I'll hold off on any consideration of a shavette, till I chill. :)

Thank you, Clint! So far, the blue isn't too difficult to keep clean. The color is kind of growing on me as well.

Well, I have enough shaves with this one to fully recommend it. I love blue as well, but wasn't sure about the color when I got it. I like it now, though. It is a smooth shaver.

  20. Screwtape

    Screwtape A Shaving Butterfly

Thanks, Clint. I collected arms and armour, edged weapons, and then knives generally long before I ever got into vintage razors. (I bought my first bayonet when I was 12.) Thiers Issard is one of the world's great old cutlery companies, which is partly why I bought the razor. I think I will end up selling it however -- I think it will be better in the hands of someone who will shave with it than just sitting in my display case...
