Experimentation is the name of the game here: if you don't try different things, how are you going to find what you like? A couple pages of posts ago, @Edison Carter noted that his preference with his Gillette adjustable has become using it on a lower setting first, then setting it higher on his subsequent passes, then going lower again for cleanup. Basically, whatever floats your boat is fine -- as another saying here goes: "It's your shave, have it your way."

@Drygulch My 94 ranger dropped the clutch or tranny about an hour ago on the interstarte. Got me home in 4th gear. Seems to be a min of a grand.. prolly not gonna try it. Too much to sink into it even with the family ties to it. Hope yours is moving right along,

Years ago, my brother told me that history only recorded ONE batch of Claxton Fruitcakes ever being made. Thusly the advent of re-gifting.
    ;)
I used to work with a gal that made absolutely the best fruitcake I ever tasted. I did not dabble in cooking back then or I'd got the recipe.

    UNSOLICITED COMMERCIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Speaking of finding what you do or don't like, I think I will keep my relatively cheap Parker SRX for future reference in case I get a yen to play with a shavette again some day. However, I plan to put my rather more expensive Thiers Issard Chatellerault Bamboo straight razor up for sale in the BST. (The one I shaved with today for the first time, then cleaned, oiled and put away again.) They run around US $300 new; I was figuring I would ask about $200 shipped for it.

Before I post it, does anyone here want first crack at it? If so, PM me.

Now that's interesting. I didn't know that. Looks like I was wrong about TTOs not being "adjustable"...

When I used to drive Rangers , the hydraulic clutch gave you no warning when it was worn out . No adjustments on them either . A new clutch is an easy fix especially if it's 2wd . Probably find a used tranny cheap if that's what failed .

That's what I recalled, Andrew. Not the specific razor, but I knew it was a pre-adjustable TTO!
An obscure almost nonsensical idea. Why wouldn't you tighten down a TTO? Next time someone mentions they shaved with a loose knob, notice how aggressive their shave is. ;)

Let's PLAY Jeapordy!. THE ANSWER IS: They all used Rise Shaving Cream/Foam without water and it was a nice shave! What's the question:

I knew it would stump you....The question is-What do former sports athletes Dick Butkus, Jerry Lucas, and the late Andy Robustelli have in common with this writer??

Wwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeelllllll. ...two problems with that, I suppose. The first 3 went on TV with famous commercials to show their work, I didn't. Also, the first three used Rise ORIGINAL Shave cream-I didn't. But mine still said Rise on the can! Oh all right, a third would be that the first 3 did complete shaves...I didn't(or haven't yet).

Oh , you need to try a vintage SE next. My Gillette ss cut me when the knob loosened but my 1912 hasn't yet. Just saying. I'm doing head shaves with the single edge now . Who knows , may try it with the shavette next .

I did . And all I felt was a tug before the blood starting running out of my head . User error on my part . I always check everytime I rinse to be sure it's tight .

    Razor: Simplex/Fat Tech Handle
    Blade: German Wilkie (1)
    Brush: 30DC LE/Pure Badger
    Soap: Der Vergulde Hand
    Post: Alum, Listerine, WH

I'm spending a few days with the Simplex razor from Mechanical Servants. For today's shave, I'm going with a brand new German Wilkie and a Fat Tech handle. It seems to be a nice combo- mild with a bit of blade feel. Overall, a pleasant shave with no issues.
