  3. With pleasure. I scanned my handwritten recipe for "Jane's Fruitcake" complete with battle scars from my kitchen. My notes are around 20 years old and were transcribed in the kitchen of one of the kindest, most loving people and best cooks that I've ever known...my Dear Mother-in-Law. I'm betting the original recipe is 60 or 70 years old. If you try it, please let me know how you like it. It looks like you and I are chosen.

One you make it, wrap it in cheese cloth and foil. Put it on a large plate to collect any residual moisture, and store it in a dark cupboard for a couple of weeks or so. Every so often, drizzle some of your favorite fruity wine or bourbon on it...just enough to keep it moist. It makes a wonderful fruitcake, and it freezes well.
I believe this is the first time a recipe has been shared on the 30DC thread. Let it be to known to all that it was a FRUITCAKE recipe. :eatdrink020: :happy097:

And so you'll know where the recipe originated, here's a family Christmas photo from about that same time I got the recipe. That was back when I still had my hair and my sense of humor. :)

Good evening all. This is a tough thread to keep up with. Nice to see the camaraderie amongst you all.

Three and a half days growth for tonight's shave. Two pass with touch up on chin and jaw. I have really been focusing on shallow angle and lite touch. It paid off with this shave, DFS and only the slightest bit of irritation on my neck when the alum past over. I just got the S1 last Monday and so far I'm pretty happy with it. I'm curious to see where I'll be at the end of the month.[IMG]

  5. Thank you so much. I'll give the fruitcake report on another thread.

Word on the street is that there are already enough FRUITCAKES around here.
    :scared003:

Then again .... This could be the best place to get it CUT.

  8. Congrats on your progress with the Pain Stick, Dan! I think your approach with it is very good. At some point when you work up to two passes (possibly ATG on the second pass), you're really gonna like the Pain Stick's performance. Take your time in getting there, though. Great photo as well!
  9. Thank you!

  14. Monday night March 5 - Menthol Monday edition

Supply Co. v.2 SE injector on second plate / Personna (unknown)
    Alluminati Envy White badger brush
My Italian almond frankensoap and TSD M-Bomb
Alum, Clubman Joris Osage Rub (not pictured) and Lucky Tiger

    IMG_00000184.jpg

I loaded the brush heavily with the soap, super gooping it in the tub, then drizzled a light sundae topping of M-Bomb onto the soft serve of lather on the brush. I then face lathered three passes worth of chilly goodness onto my face. There was a solid handful of thick cream still in the knot when I squeezed it out at the end of the shave.

I did three passes tonight with the injector instead of my usual two and ended up very very close to BBS -- just a slight roughness under my jaw causing me to miss catching the little critter. The alum was silent. I then put on a small splash of Osage Rub while I finished my cleaning up around the sink, and after that finished off the shave with a palmful of Lucky Tiger's orange-scented skincare.

A thoroughly enjoyable shave, and I am now clean, very cool, and definitely refreshed...

While I wouldn't say I made it through the shave smoothly I wouldn't call it a "loss" either. I managed a pretty nice DFS 2 pass shave with only a small Nick on my chin and a little razor burn on the center of my neck where the beard cowlick is. A little lighter pressure on the neck and getting past the curve of my chin and I've got it. The rest of my face and neck actually felt great this time.

  16. Thank you for sharing the memories. I sold my last beater, a 1960 F100 long bed, about 13 years ago. I forgot how fun it is to bounce down the road in an old truck with worn out shocks, very loose steering, and questionable brakes. Good times.

  18. March 5

New setup for three days. Aristocrat, Stirling Iced Coffee and Jayaruh 54. Fresh Sharp Star. I'm a glutton for punishment.

The Iced Coffee adds a nice menthol kick for Monday and three passes leaves a baby behind. And the scent.....wonderful and still noticeable. Looking forward to two more days before packing this one.
