  1. Wednesday March 7 early morning - Soap sampling focus
    IMG_00000187.jpg

Supply Co V.2 Single Edge matte black injector on second plate / Personna (lots)
Jason's Non-30DC Cypress Badger brush (Maggards 24mm 2-band badger knot)
    The Dry Dock shaving bowl
Cyril R. Salter's Indian Sandalwood shaving cream (sample)
Alum and TSD Sandalwood Milk Aftershave

I began my sample run today with a small sample tub of Salter's Indian Sandalwood shaving cream, which I got from the TSD Shop. (It has a great selection of shaving creams available in sample format.) I scooped a generous portion out of the 1oz tub (no sense being stingy, after all) and pressed it into the bottom of my shaving bowl. After wiping my sampler spatula clean on my damp brush, I dumped a palmful of water into the bowl and began to work the brush. Lots of luscious lather happened very quickly. Enough and good enough so that I did three passes instead of my normal two. Afterwards, I still had sufficient lather left over to offer a passing Yeti a free shave in exchange for a photograph. Unfortunately, he declined, explaining that family policy forbids them from having their pictures taken. (He was passing by here, I understand, because he was taking advantage of our recent snowy weather to visit his Sasquatch cousins...)

The Salter version of sandalwood is a very hearty scent that is woodsy but has spices and I think some citrus scents mixed in. Not a "pure" sandalwood but a good strong scent and one I quite enjoyed. (The TSD Sandalwood aftershave has a straight sandalwood scent to it and is recognizably different.) I will be using the Salter cream for the rest of the week to finish off the tub. In fact, there was still a bit of unused cream at the bottom of the lather bowl when I rinsed it out, so that will be the start of tomorrow's shave. I had dumped about a fifth of my sample in the bowl; clearly a little less will work just as well.

The razor did its usual thorough job with no cuts, nicks, weepers or irritation, and the alum was mostly silent despite the extra pass -- a bit of warmth on my neck but nothing drastic. However, the blade felt a bit rougher today than normal, so I think it's time it went into the blade bank. It has somewhere between 7 and 10 shaves on it, so it doesn't owe me anything. Since I would be changing the blade anyway, I believe I will shave for the next while with my Gillette adjustables and will try some odds and ends of sample blades I have accumulated.

Hope everyone is on track to have a great Wednesday -- the hump of the week...

This week is really going by fast since it has been very hectic at work. A nice shave after my morning PT is a great way to start the day. After a good loading, I took time to slowly add water to the Mike's as I face lathered. Mike's takes a little work but the results are worth the effort. Three passes and touch ups ended in a near perfect shave. The Rocnel SE-G is a little too much razor for buffing my neck. A splash of Fine Platinum and I am off to fight the morning commute. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
  9. Beautiful picture, Clint!

  11. That made me laugh. No worries, Neal. The whole world rebels against fruitcake without me being involved (except apparently a few deviants in the 30DC). They don’t need a leader. In fact I think @wristwatchb is quietly and subversively making a power play on the cookies with his spreading of the fruitcake recipe.

You make a good point here. What need have I for cookies (other than to destroy...er... crumble them up... and use them in the cookies and cream)?
  12. Great pics gentlemen. My background right now would be snow , nice white beautiful snow . Come take some and get free cookies for every truckload you take . Offer stands till I can see nothing but green grass .
  13. So sorry @Bama Samurai i was unable to use the shavette this morning had to run first thing. But I will continue in the morning
  14. Thanks, Clint. I am quite enjoying this Salter's Indian Sandalwood. I would be tempted to buy a full tub except (a) I already have more creams and soaps than I know what to do with, and (b) I'm on NB'18...

Another great photo and shave report, Clint. Although I don't know how you can stand having all that horrible green stuff around instead of some nice, clean snow...

That blue razor really stands out. Another interesting filter effect too.

  16. Thank you Gentlemen. All the green stuff does have a very evil twist....pollen. It is already causing me to have sinus problems.

  19. I here you. Our main culprit right now is the Bradford Pear Trees. Soon enough it will be all the pines, oaks, etc. then it will be just a green cloud over the city. Were it not for the pollen, spring in Atlanta would really be a very nice season here in Atlanta.

  20. I believe almost anywhere could be nice without pollen lol. Here people walk around with face mask on
