  1. Shave #7 of the rule:

    Slim 8/5
    Rapira SS(5)
    Yaqi BB
    Tabac SS
    Barbon AS Splash
    Nivea Orginal PS Balm

Started the 8 on eight, way to aggressive, dailed down to five for second and third pass. Blade felt like it was on its last leg, throughout the shave, pitched it when I was done. Overall, the alum sung less, still over shaved a few spots. In hindsight, starting the rule with a relatively unknown hard soap, was probably a poor decision. Lather was marginally better. Still having trouble figuring these lower neck hairs out. A decent amount of redness, bumps, and still barely feels shaven. Some how I'm managing to irritate the area without really even cutting any of the hairs. Well, tomorrow's another shave and my last day of the week.

P.S. Does anyone think it's crazy, that I shave everyday, even though my job doesn't require it?

  2. Last December's theme theme was Decadence. My Focus was improving lather. Easiest way to do that is use more product. I'm not worried about having a little or a lot of left over lather as long as what I use is slick with good residual glide. It's kind of like using a fresh blade in a shavette every time while starting out. You never suffer a poor shave for pinching pennies.
That new lather bowl you want is waiting at a thrift store, or might already be in the back of your kitchen cabinet.

  3. Thank you Clint. Two of the six attendees ended up with the flu so the meeting was canceled.
Thanks. At least I got to visit some family.
  4. Most of us would shave twice everyday if we could.
  5. If I might make a suggestion: blades are cheap. Starting shavette users are recommended to use a fresh half blade every shave. For DE razors users, the guideline here is a maximum of "three shaves and done". Injectors and Gem-style SEs have thicker stiffer blades, so they can go for up to five, although "three and done" is still not a bad guideline while learning them too.

Once your technique is solid, you can have fun seeing how far you can stretch a blade if you want. But while learning, the goal is to eliminate as many variables as possible, and worn or damaged blades are an easy one to avoid.
  6. Also, another suggestion: instead of bumping up the dial a notch every shave, spend a few days at each level until you are comfortable with your result, and only then increase the aggressiveness. Again -- eliminating variables to focus on techique.
  7. I shave daily . Don't have too but can't stand the sandpaper feeling if I don't.
  8. Solid advice right there!
  9. I love the sand paper feel actually.

    Fine Italian Citrus

We are having crazy weather here in Atlanta. Highs in the 80s one week and then freezing this morning. Well at least the sun is shining. I pulled out the Fine Italian Citrus soap and aftershave since I have not used it in a long time. Like all the other Fine soaps this one was easy to lather. The citrus scent off the tub has a smell that reminds me of Lemon Pledge but during lathering the scent becomes more pleasant. We a rich slick base of lather, I went with a traditional 3 pass shave followed by touchups along my jawline and lower neck. I didn't chase the baby but did end up with a near perfect shave. I finished off the shave with a splash of Fine Italian Citrus aftershave. The scent of the aftershave has a wonderful citrus smell without the synthetic scent of the soap. Overall an excellent shave to start the day. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

  14. First cookies, then fruit cake (actually good fruit cake), and now banana bread? We are going to need a 30DC Baked Goods subforum. Great picture and some great work with the Pain Stick.
    Nice looking shave!
    Terrific picture, Keith!
  15. Thank you, Dan!
  16. OK, I am going to have to add to the PB and banana options, and borrow from a certain Elvis while I am at it. You really can't get much better than peanut butter with mashed up banana between two pieces of bread. Fry all of that in some butter and you have one awesome sandwich. My kids love em and I get to partake when I make them for my kids.

I went for a full two passes and just missed a BBS by a few spots on my neck. All in all a great shave with a terrific scent. I am getting some blood work done this morning as a follow up to an appointment a couple of months ago, so I am going in a little late as well as fasting. All this talk about food is not helping. I hope everyone has a great day!

  19. Great photos, gentlemen! Clint @clint64, thanks for the excellent description of the Fine Italian Citrus soap and aftershave. And Jim @Norcalnewb, I hope the report from the blood work is good.
