Thanks @jtspartan! I'm fudging a bit on the rule, rotating through what I have of the B&M Reserve line.

I've smelled that one too, and it is pretty nice. When your NB is up, you should look at getting a tub.

    MARCH in to Spring

    Strop Shoppe SE London Morning
    Omega boar #20248 boar brush
    Suribachi bowl and cool water
    Gillette #195 (E-4) on nine
    Astra Superior Platinum blade
Lucky Tiger Skin Care AS lotion
    SOTD 03092018 Astra SP.gif
Everybody ready to adjust your clocks for whatever reason we still do that? Spring is on the way and the crawfish haul is predicted to be good this year. I almost used Palmolive Stick for my lather, but sunlight shining in the window illuminated the rebottled LT lotion. Who doesn't want to smell like a tire fire with a hint of Spilogale putorius? I think I know why this product is discontinued. The soap is a different matter. Something about having too many varieties hit the market too fast , or changing formulas. I don't know for sure but the couple Maggard samples I tried made me like the formula ... and it was off the market before I purchased a tub. Later I swapped some gear and did get a near full tub! The scent is close to the better part of the AS and the lather has all the slip, slide, glide and residual I like. Grabbed a fat bore boar with faked badger bands and lather happened. The Fat Boy is a no brainer shave if I don't do anything weird. I didn't. Three passes and used up the extra lather shaving low on my neck & high on the recently removed sideburns. Missed a little on the right side of my jaw but elsewhere all's good. The Lucky Tiger gave a soothing alcohol burn and cooling action as it flashed off during evaporation. The Pepé LePew lingers slightly.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

Gorgeous Fatboy! I really like the Lucky Tiger tonic, which smells like oranges. Thanks for the tip to avoid this other version...

Nice to read about your excellent progress! I would echo what Clint @clint64 and Jason @jtspartan said: stick with bowl lathering at least for the next while. As you have found out, it's easier to watch your results closely and adjust the water level in the soap as needed in a bowl rather than on your face. It's easier to fix mistakes too.

I suppose it's possible that the extra scrubbing from face lathering with your boar brush might have contributed a bit to your earlier irritation. I think it's likelier that Jason is right though -- you're getting a better and wetter lather with the bowl lathering than you were face lathering even when the face lathering results looked good. I almost always bowl lather myself, because there are only a couple soaps or creams that I can reliably get as good a lather from when going directly to my face. (Arko and Cella soaps and TOBS creams, if you're curious).

Thank you John! I may still have a bottle of the orange LT. It's more witch hazel than alcohol so I don't use it often. The Anti-Enabling is just one of the services I offer.

Same for me. With a wide low bowl I can see what my lather is doing. Adding more water or soap is easy so fine tuning happens to my satisfaction. Is it an extra step? Not if I never get a substandard batch. Was that a triple negative? Anyways I'm getting best lather every time.

You're right, Jason. With hundreds of good blades in my stash, there's no reason for me to waste shaves on mediocre ones. I won't be using the other four blades in this Lord Super Stainless tuck. Tomorrow I will try the Lord Super Chrome, but if I don't like it right off the bat, that blade is going to be "one and gone" -- and I won't be using the rest of that tuck either. But then that's what samples are for: to find out whether we like the product or not before buying a lot of it.

Speaking of buying products, be warned: I looked at Simpson's brushes on a store website "purely for research" ... and left with a Chubby... [enable mode on] Btw, the Chubby really is a great brush if you are in the market for a synthetic that is different from the rest. Someone here described it as a "wall o' badger feel" -- and that's about right. I would say you can't go wrong getting one. [enable mode off] Except for your NB'18 vow of course -- stay strong, my friend, and don't let the enablers here get you. :)

I'll be curious to see how the Slim works for you after you get it cleaned up, Paul. I know you had set it aside for a few months. I hope it will perform better for you this time around. I'm not sure what you dropped it in - and I really don't want to know - but soaking it in very hot water should help with the clean up.

That's what I've been doing...along with dish liquid. I'd like to get back on with it, too. It's that dag-gone ANGLE issue....my key problem. I want to do it like I'm drawing a picture on my face and neck. Slow.

You'll get it, Paul. Riding the cap, stretching the skin, using just enough pressure to wipe the lather off, and slowing down until your skills develop takes practice, but it really works. We're rootin' for 'ya!
