Starting to get the hang of the shavette. Still having a little trouble with the chin area but I definitely got a very nice two pass shave and didn't get a lot of sting from the alum anywhere other than where I nicked myself.

    Fruitcake recipe review.....

While pondering the aging process of good fruitcake formulas like the one @wristwatchb was so gracious to share, it dawned on me that I am fundamentally opposed to being 'drunken under the table' by fruitcakes.

Therefore I came across the recipe below that is better for the baker. My only question will be am I still as good "once" as I ever was.....

    Christmas Whiskey Cake

    1 cup butter
    2 cups sugar
    6 large eggs
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    3 cups flour, sifted
    1/2 t. salt
    1 cup bourbon
    1 pound pecans, chopped
3 cups white raisins (or use candied fruit)
    1 t. nutmeg
    AND
~ a very large bottle of bourbon whiskey ~

First, sample the whiskey to check for quality.
Assemble all of the ingredients. Check the whiskey again.
To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink.
    Repeat this step.
Turn on the electric mixer and beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl.
Add one teaspoon of sugar and cream until beat.
Make sure the whiskey is still okay… try another cup.
Turn off the mixer. Beat six leggs and add to the bowl, then chunk in the cup of dried flut. Mix on the tuner.
Throw in two quarts of flour. Gradually pour in the cow.
    Add 2 dried anything.
If the fried druit gets struck in the beaters, pry it loose with
a drewscriver. Sample the whiskey and check it again for tonsistency.
Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Whatever.
    Check the whiskey again.
Now sift the nutmeg and strain your nuts. Add one table.
And the spoon. Of whiskee. Or something. Whatever you find left.
    Grease the oven.
Turn the crake pan to 350 degrees. Don’t forget to pour the oven into the batter. Throw the bowl out the window.
Lick the batter off the floor.
Bake 300 minutes at 50 degrees.
Finish the blobble of whishy and flow to bed.

Anyhow....back to shaving. I've been playing with an I1 injector on Saturdays. I really like the comfortable easy shave I get..... The question I have is, now that I see my results improving nicely in time with a modern adjustable DE, is it a reasonable expectation the old Schick will do the same? Opinions?

Some great photos and shave reports today, gentlemen!

I am on the phones for most of the weekend again, so I was lazy, slept an extra hour, and skipped shaving this morning.

    Shave 7 of 30

So no shave on Friday since it was the weekend, but I decided to shave today. I'm falling behind. So today's shave was done completely with the shavette. No touch ups with the Schick E3 at all. The results were... acceptable. If you're not looking too closely I would appear clean shaven, but I had to stop myself from running my fingers across my face because there were definitely some rough patches.

One nick, and that was due to me just being too rough, but like any good nick I didn't feel it. As for the alum, it was pretty quiet. A few spots were it sang a bit, but those were spots where I had taken the razor over a few times, and probably not as smooth as I should have been. So I guess I'm getting the hang of this. Since the blade had been used twice it was into the razor bank.

Yes. If you have been improving with a modern adjustable DE because you are getting used to using light pressure and skin stretching, when you try your Schick you will probably find you do better with it too -- because you will automatically use light pressure and skin stretch... As long as you quit sampling that whiskey bottle beforehand...:)

Time to just put the double sided stuff away. The Schick will keep getting better. Soon you will need a E...then a G.....then a H...:signs136: VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!!!

Learning skin stretching was a huge key in improvements to my process. Even though I consider the injector to be more gentle, I've noticed that it seems stretching is more important.

As far as booze goes, reality is 2/day max......usually regret it beyond that. Of course as much as those cakes drink, I'm only going to be able to make 1 per year.

Nice looking combo, Chris. I find the Sudsy Soapery a very nice lather, indeed. The Jack Frost I have is an acquired taste however...
Sounds like a very nicely scented cream, Clint. Enjoy your weekend!
Some more Reserve goodness! Don’t worry about the hot water, it is not a deal-breaker. Many on here use hot water, myself included. I don’t use cold until I rinse my face off afterwards.
That brush is simply stunning. I’ve never given serious thought to pouring resin, with the exception of wood/resin blends such as this. Absolutely top notch stuff, Jim.
Hope you get some decent offers, Charlie. It would be nice to have everything settled before you get into your new digs.

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: GEM PTFE
    Razor: GEM G-Bar
    Brush: Zenith B02 boar
    Lather: Soap Commander Vision
Post: Witch hazel, Fine Lavender aftershave

Easy shave this afternoon. Really enjoyed all the elements working together. The G-Bar is an excellent razor and the Soap Commander Vision has such a terrific scent. The Fine Lavender goes right along with the scent of Vision. All came together quite well.

    Enjoy your weekend!

Thank you, Jason! The combination is terrific, and in reality the pictures don't do it justice. The has a mountains in the Aurora feel to it with some swirls and colors I just can't get to photograph very well.
