Today's shave was with an American Made razor. I had a super smooth 2 pass shave, with near BBS results, without touch-ups. Incredibly smooth edge. The Arkansas Surgical Black stone, works wonders with this razor.

    Brush- JR#262. Birdseye Maple/Ebony.

    SHAVE OF THE DAY
    20180310_164650.jpg

Prep: shower with RR Sandalwood bath soap, pre shave soap mix
    Razor: Razorock Hawk
    Blade: Feather Pro Guard
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft

    Soap: Ballenclaugh Hot Barrel Rose
    Post: Myrsol Emulsion

Fantastic shave this afternoon. Love the scent and performance of Ballenclaugh soaps. HBR is a mix of rose and gunpowder, this is the older version that is a bit heavier on the rose and without the bourbon that was added to the 4.5 version. Lather had a wide range for water tollerence. Went with a bit less water than usual for the 1St pass, since usually i add about as much water as the lather will hold. Finished with a BBS shave with no irritation. Hope everyone is doing well and getting great shaves!

I decided to try the shampoo & bought the Sandalwood puck. I discovered I really enjoyed it. I rub the puck on my head just a bit and it really foams up to a thick rich lather fast. I liked it so much I bought a few other scents: Alt-Eleven, Atomic Age Bay Rum, Planet 9, Dapper Doc, & Lime Ginger Tea Tree. The pucks are rather big and awkward to store so I only opened a few and have been using the Atomic Age, Planet 9, & Tea Tree once the Sandalwood was depleted. The scents are relatively strong and smell great in the shower. The Sandalwood lasted about 100 uses and was well worth purchasing. My hair is left soft and shiny clean. Surprisingly it is funny but out of nowhere a few folks have commented on my hair in the office since I have been using the pucks so I guess it is doing a good job. So far Planet 9 has been my favorite scent. I bought it because I was curious about Planet 9 and since I like it so much, I think I will order the shave soap and AS. These pucks gave me a chance to try some scents that have been on my to try list without adding yet another shave soap to the over growing collection. Don't worry about clashing with other products because I do not notice the scent lasting once it is washed out of my hair. If it remains, it is faint at best and my hair is too short for me to smell it myself. I can't recommend these enough and strongly recommend giving them a try if so inclined. I just try to keep them dry after use because I fear they could become mushy and have been successful so far.

As for Porthos, I was interested in the scent and tried the balm. I don't recall the original Arymis scent so unfortunately I can't provide a good comparison. As for this version, the scent is just OK to me. It is not my favorite, but I do not dislike it. My wife is only borderline with it as well. I think it works well with some soaps but honestly I would probably not buy it again although I find that it is growing on me a bit. I find that the balm scents do not smell exactly like the other bundled products - maybe because of the menthol. They also dissipate quicker and are not as strong. The jelly balms really work well though and seem provide good care for the skin.

Pick up the bakelite OC slant. It really is a fun razor. It really torques the hell out the blades. At first I thought the design was a bit rough the way it distorts the blades under the cap, but all I can say is it works well. I thought it would be more of a novelty to try, but found it to be a good razor to use regularly. To each his own, but I really like it and it does seem to have a number of folks that agree.

I hope you found this useful.

Being a GNR fan, I have wanted to try the Ballenclaugh soap, but it seems it is no longer being made. It is always out of stock. Sounds great.

So we can get a money machine AND a time machine too?:bounce015:

Hello Bill. Another Bill here. I'm new around here, but I do want to say that I also am fond of the newspaper clippings. They remind of my days as a newspaper boy.
I ultimately found my career in the printing business, when (as a whole) it represented the 3rd largest industry in the US, behind autos & steel. Today I feel like a buggy whip maker.

    Thanks. Best wishes:happy088:

Damn Steve that may have just been one of the best reply I have ever got on a question about a product. Great to hear the shampoo bar is working well, figured it would be a good way to try out a scent, like you said it's not worth adding abother shave soap to the den without knowing about the scent first.

Will report back about how close Porthos is to the orniginal Arymis. Have a small bottle of the vintage stuff, the scent is not my favorite either, but is a stronger scent along the line of English Leather. Bold scent that changes with time.

Also great the razor is working out well. The Fine Slant seemed way too light to be taken seriously, but if it shaves well that's all that matters in the long run.

If you want I could send you a sample to try. Excellent stuff, Ballenclaugh has a way of making unique scents. Shoot me a PM and I can make up a few samples of their soaps.

03/07/2018 - Shave of the Night..

First shave with the Barbosol Floating Head DE - I was blown away.. You hear a lot about Gillette and various German DE's but this razor does not get much attention. This Razor has a long handle and some SERIOUS weight to it. Some call it aggressive - some call it efficient, but this Razor commands respect and it will bite u! I had a few weepers on my 1st go with it, but I got such a close shave that I only get from a Type E or a Every Ready 1914. The razor lost a lot of its chrome and has scratches and dings, it aint pretty but it works fine. I like it so much I got a re-plating scheduled in the next few months.

    1. Quarter Master Shave Jelly - 1898 {etsy seller}
    2. Jayaruh 400 Type with synthetic horse knot.
3.Crown King - I'd lather be shaving Mug - bay rum soap limited to the mug sale.
    4. barbosol floating head DE - with a Gillette Rubie
    5. PAA Crown King - atomic Bay Rum after shave/cologne as well as the star jelly balm.
