Grey Flannel. There was a time when I enjoyed it. Now it just makes me shudder.

You sound like my wife. First several times I wore it, she enjoyed it. The last time, she wasn't too thrilled.

It wasn't an intentional choice. At one point I really enjoyed it. Then didn't smell it for years. Found some, bought some, opened it, sprayed it, regretted it. It may be a reformulation issue in this circumstance.

I have never considered myself a brush snob. I like brushes of all makes and types, from $8 up. But I have been critical of low priced 3 band silvertip. I have ranted about knot density and backbone, high lofts, cheap brushes that entice newbies, and claimed that while you could buy a good badger for a low price, it wasn’t gonna be a three band silvertip. Shop Finest, that’s where the value is at.

Then I put a TGN Grade A into this handle. This knot is fantastic. It’s dense enough to feel full on a guy’s face, has flow through, and while I maybe won’t say that it’s Thater or Kent soft, it is a SOFT brush. This is a REALLY good 3 band for a $30 dollar knot.

I have a Simpson Commodore that has an excellent Best knot in it, one of the better ones I’ve had. I would swear if you blindfolded me, I couldn’t tell them apart from their face feel.

TLDR: TGN Grade A Silvertips are a really great knot.

Several years ago I put a TGN Silvertip into a ER200 handle. It has been and continues to be a great brush!

A Stirling stick. With a great name. Maybe if it works you can convince Rod to add it to his stock.

Ten days in and the confidence is growing as the shaves keep getting better. Awesome work and progress.

    March 11

Irony rears its head. After three fine shaves with an aggressive razor and blade I switched to the venerable Fatboy on 6 with the Bic CP blade. Should be an easy and nice shave. Should be.

The finish is a near BBS but the blood flowed a bit. One nick under the chin and a couple along the jawline. Alum was warm to hot and I can feel the heat still. Not sure what happened other than perhaps me getting complacent and throwing the angle to the wind. I'll try to correct tomorrow.

On the positive side.....Stirling Mountain Man and the Omega 10066......pure delight.

I own both the CJB and a Feather, and I actually prefer the cheaper CJB. It's not quite as aesthetically pleasing, but I like the grip and the blade clip better. The thinner blade clip allows for better blade angle.

The CJB clones the Feather DX, which has the same head geometry as the Kai. The Feather SS with it's "lip" is the oddball of the bunch. The DX style, while slightly more likely to bite, does provide a better shave in my amateur opinion.

You’re selling yourself short. Easier to be patient at this hands on hobby than M-F for me...
Awesome brush review. I really like my TGN finest as well.

Sunday night March 11 - no pic Sunday

Rockwell 6s on plate #3 / Lord Super Chrome (1)
    Semogue SOC cherrywood Tuxedo brush
    The Dry Dock shave bowl
    Salter's Indian Sandalwood cream
Alum and TSD Milk Aftershave Sandalwood

Same setup as the rest of the week except I substituted my Rockwell 6s to try the Lord Super Chrome.

Got a great lather from this cream on its last outing. I finished off the sample tub, but then doublechecked the vendor site and these tubs are sold as only 1/4 oz, so no points to claim from @Drygulch until three more bite the dust...

The Lord Super Chrome seemed to be a better blade than the Lord Super Stainless. I won't be rushing to buy a 100-pack but I don't mind shaving this blade out and then using the rest of the tuck.

Overall a pleasant shave to get rid of a couple days of stubble.

Something interesting happened when shaving yesterday! I was doing the usual 3xWTG shave, and on the third pass on my face - the razor did not cut any hairs at all... There was nothing left on my cheeks! This has never happened before, and I'm hoping that this is a sign that my angle/pressure/skin stretching have improved! The whole shave went well. It was a nice CCS.

    Razor: Merkur 34C
    Blade: Astra SP (2)
    Brush: Bluebeards Doubloon
    Soap: Proraso White
Post Shave: Alum & Nivea Sensitive

I have also found that the Astra blades seem to be at their best during the second and third shaves, after that they seem to deteriorate... I think I'll start to bin them after 3!
