Here are the pics of the box you requested .This set was purchased by an Army Serviceman after WWII .His grandson put it up bid on Ebay .
Test Depth I plan using Naniwa synthetic stones up to 8 K .Followed by Belgian Couticle and English Yellow Lake .Finish should be in 16K-20K Range .May experiment with Thuri and Black Serological Arkansas Finish as well .Might even do a different finish for each day of the week.Still working out the final plan .
Hess # 1, a Bengall, 2 project razors: a C. Friedrich Kratz & Co and a Frederick Reynolds American Razor.
I just acquired. Simmons Hardware Co. St Louis. No8 Special. It's a Double Concave Hollow Grind. @gssixgun knows more about these. I couldn't get a good pic of the end. Here is a project razor, I got for a few dollars. It's magnetized, and sticking to other razors. Radigan Rich & Co. Germany. Hope Cutlery Co.
Such a cool spine on that Simmons! Cool spine + unique grind = "Special" razor. Thanks for sharing Scott.
The scales, in good shape, are impressive. Unfortunately these particular ones are very warped and staring to delam and the pivot end of one is broken. I'll put some effort into getting them in good shape but may end up rescaling.
This just arrived. If anyone knows anything about this razor, please chime in. Razor- M'F'R'D' In England, Specially For H.L.G. Co. NY. Its a thick and heavy wedge, with Bone scales. BTW, those are water drops on the blade. I scrubbed it with soap and water. The seller was a heavy smoker, and the razor stunk up the place.
Staying on a recent Herder Razor theme, I was able to pick up this R Holder 578. I believe this is in the Herder razor family as that trademark is identical, but stranger things exist in straight razor history. It joins an F Herder 45 & 77 and I was able to acquire maybe 3-4 blanks that are not finally ground (and maybe not had the final temper) a while back. Took about 5 minutes with Flitz to get to this point. Very happy... And here is the trademark Looks Herder family to me ! Tom
