Andrew, the answer is maybe a little bit, but I had to really think about it before I said that, so it's not much. It has shea butter, glycerin and aloe vera in it among other things, so a bit of oiliness is inevitable but it's not really noticeable to me. Compared to an alcohol splash like Clubman VIBR, the TSD milk does leave my skin feeling a bit soft and hydrated, which could be interpreted as greasy. Compared to my Nivea Sensitive Balm, it sinks right in and disappears. So a bit of a wishy washy answer but more No than Yes for me.

Jim, the Vanta looks quite unusual. I like that the blade edges are covered. The blade holder looks fairly wide. Is it fairly maneuverable?

It is more maneuverable than I would have initially thought. I didn't have too much of an issue getting around, but it does feel a little different than the Classic Samurai. I'll use it all weekend to see how it feels after a few days.

What a cutie! You must be a very proud Grandpa, Brian! Your daughter did a nice job on the beanie, too.

The stare...the open mouth, beginning to drool....
Any chance you have the Shavemac website up?

There he is! No matter how far behind I am on the thread, I always look for the little guy on Friday’s. He gets bigger every week. Thanks for sharing, Andrew.

Shaves of the Week (3.12 thru 3.16)

The last time I posted on this thread was last Friday. Last week I wasn't feeling well (bad cold) and it continued on through the weekend. To top it off, I reported that I gave myself a bloody shave last Friday with the CJB pain stick, which is my primary focus this month. I blame myself on the loss of focus which resulted in 3 cuts I received, two of them minor... well, they were all minor and none required medical intervention. Yet the one on my left jaw line was the most significant and it took it's time healing so for the three shaves I did do this week I opted to use mild shavers and I set the CJB razor aside. I hope to go back to the CJB next week.

    SOTD 3.12.2018 (Menthol Monday)
    Pre-shave: hot shower
    Brush: Marvy Boar
    Soap: Proraso white
    Razor: Merkur 23c
    Blade: Family Dollar DE (3)
Post-shave: Dickinson's Original WH, Nivea Men Sensitive Cooling PS Balm, Osage Rub splash

This was a very mild shave (which I wanted), but the 23c was my second DE razor when I started down this path and it's a great performer. I received a DFS and I didn't reopen that wound.

    SOTD 3.14.2018 (Williams Wednesday)
    Pre-shave: hot shower
    Brush: Barburys synthetic
    Soap: Williams
    Razor: Merkur 23c
    Blade: Derby (1)
Post-shave: Assured WH, Nivea Men Sensitive PS Balm, Jovan Musk Oil for Men AS / Cologne

The synthetic brush produced some outstanding lather from the Williams! The Derby blade was disappointing. I did two passes and ultimately had a DFS, but the blade was a challenge. Usually, I have pretty good luck with Derbys.

I pulled out the Jovan Musk for the post-shave. This particular bottle I bought a long time ago.... I think back in the 80s. I infrequently used AS back then so this bottle is nearly full.

    SOTD 3.17.2018
    Pre-shave: hot shower
    Brush: Marvy Boar
    Soap: Scalpmaster
Razor: Gillette slim J-2 (set at #9)
    Blade: Derby (2)
Post-shave: Dickinson's Original WH, Nivea Men Sensitive PS Balm, Pinaud Clubman Classic Vanilla AS

Since Fuzzy @wchnu accepted my challenge to try this Scalpmaster soap (from Sallys) this week and do a video on it, I decided to use it today. Some people, and I won't name names, are often critical of Williams. I understand that. I've experienced those same issues in the beginning, but I also gave Williams a chance and continued to use it and try different methods with it. Now I love it.

If you dislike Williams, you'd hate Scalpmaster. You say Williams disappears? Scalpmaster is tricky... sometimes it doesn't show up. Well, not that bad. It disappears quickly. It lathers for me quite well. It paints on the face very well. It certainly did today. But maybe it's the body heat or whatever is the cause it tends to dissipate fairly quickly. That said, it remains slick and it actually does what it is expected to do... it provides a layer of protection between your skin and the blade in spite of the disappearing lather. Another option I've used in the past is to combine this soap lather with another product like Cremo and Slick Head creams.... the combination between the two produces a fantastic lather.

Overall today, I received a DFS with the Slim. Again I'm disappointed with this Derby. I finished with it, but it missed quite a few whiskers on the first pass and I had to do another couple of passes to make sure I got everything. I blame the blade for this... not the soap.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!
