March 2018 30 Day Rule/Focus Pix & Discussion

This is from one of their last few competitions. The vid is likely a TLDR, cause their show is 20 minutes, but you can get an idea. (Maybe even fast forward to about 3:45) It is sort of a year round thing, but from October through March they rehearse for three hours a pop, three times a week, with four weekends where they go all day. Then competitions are most weekends in Jan/Feb. As much of a music parent as I am, it isn’t my favorite thing, but I have to admire them for the effort.

One of the comments on last night's shave had to do with my staying at 6 on the Fatboy. I almost felt like my shaving skills were being questioned. Almost. But, it is probably true that for me to use the Fatty on less than "setting me" could be seen as a bit of a cop out. After all, I've certainly shaved with more dangerous items than a wide open 195. Just for the sake of transparency I use 6 because it's one of the easiest settings and setups that I can get a quick BBS with. Lazy way out. So, ok, I'll take the suggestion/shaming and load up a nice sharp Russki blade and open that Gillette all the way.

Stirling brush and soap tonight. Haven't had the pleasure of the Ozark Mountain for far too long. Man I love this soap. Three full passes just so I could keep lathering away with it and the baby is in the house on quiet alum. Yep, I'm glad my dedication was called into question. I needed that shave.

Your weekend has arrived! (Most of you anyway). Hope it's a good one. My Monday is calling and I have five days to make some money ahead of me. It's St. Patrick's Day tomorrow and my slightly evil wife is daring me to wear my kilt to work tomorrow. It's a Kerry County tartan so would fit very well. We'll see in the morning.

So here I am, in the midst of packing everything up including my shaving gear (causing some mild separation anxiety) and you post up that razor. Which, of course, makes me want one just because of the cool factor and it's another shavette to try. Enabling level - Expert!

I might get a rock thowed at me...but I think I like the ozark mountain more then the electric sheep...scent wise I mean. They both lather great.

 

Ozark is absolutely one of my most favorite soaps. It is woodsy, earthy and smoky, but it is a super heavy hitter, powerhouse strength, scent. It makes you want to go lumberjack something.

 

Where is the Amen button?

 

Well they can throw one at me too. I like both, they both lather great, but scent-wise I'd pick the mountain over the sheep. I do like the feel of the mutton tallow, though. Perhaps a bit more than the beef tallow.

 

That is really cool. I actually watched the entire video. They get a lot of exercise, don't they? It's a lot more fun than watching a traditional choir. Thanks for sharing.

I wouldn't worry so much about rocks. Those sheep fans are a sneaky lot. Keep an eye on your bowl...

 

I can not really tell any difference. The fancy stuff is wasted on me..lol.

Proud or horrified. Actually that kid playing guitar can really shred, so maybe extra proud.

So who has more or less got the hang of the shavette? This guy does after 3 days of not shaving from being under the weather I managed a very nice two pass shave with a very quiet alum and no nicks.

My new brush arrived in the Friday afternoon mail: Jayaruh #267, made from birdseye maple with a new boar knot harvested from an unused Omega 49 Pro. Jim @Jayaruh did a wonderful job on the brush. We traded vintage razors for a brush and both seem pleased with our sides of the deal. The photo shows JR #267 after I let a test lather dry on it so the knot is blooming slightly. The handle is gorgeous both to look at and to hold, and I can already tell that this boar knot is going to be superb.

It will start its career with my next shave.

The other brush is my other "new" brush this month: my wretched Semogue Owners Club cherrywood boar brush reborn as a wonderful Tuxedo. I have used it several times over the last couple weeks and its performance is now excellent. Thanks again to Jason @jtspartan for rescuing this otherwise nice wood handle from an imminent trip to the garbage dump...

 

I've been looking at aggressive razors for my next purchase. Just to see if it will allow me to get a closer shave (coarse beard/sensitive skin) in 2 passes.
The two that have consistently popped up are the Muhle R41 and the Merkur Futur.

I have found a Merkur Futur clone for <$10 (Mingshi 2000s) and wondered if anyone knows whether they are any good? I like the look of a Futur, but I'm not sure if I can justify £50+ in case I don't like it!
