Happy St Patrick's Day. With the house so quite, I was able to sleep in this morning. After a busy and hectic week, I really appreciated the extra rest. The big WWB Tuxedo ate through the Jeeves Bay Rum and whipped up a ton of rich slick later. Sticking with a standard three pass shave followed by touchups along my jawline and neck ended in a near perfect shave. A splash of Krampert's Bay Rum was a wonderful end to a great shave. I hope everyone has a great Saturday.

Thank you, Clint and Jim! I am pleased with how both brushes turned out. And I shaved today with the Jayaruh boar, using it to face lather my TOBS Sandalwood cream. This boar brush did a super job on its very first outing. The bristles still smell a bit of pig, but that's diminishing after a couple test lathers and one use. Give it another week of soap and the funky smell will be gone, I expect.

Wow! Congrats on JR # 267. It's a beauty! I can't imagine a better knot for it than an Omega boar!

And kudos to @jtspartan for rescuing the SOC cherry handle. The Tuxedo is my favorite synthetic knot.

Not much variety ahead in my shave menus this coming week. I hereby proclaim tomorrow through next Saturday as "TSD A.S. FOCUS" week. You'll see what I'm talkinabout. I'll probably end up with more entries in this thread than in that of SOTD.

 

You and I both have the BR soap(from Jeeves), but I see you used a different BR aftershave. In my case. I have to use a different one, as I don't have the Jeeves BR A.S.

Saturday morning March 17 - new brush, old razor and cream

I took my new brush out for a spin today. Since I have used samples of Salter and Trumper sandalwood creams lately, I decided to use my TOBS sandalwood cream today so I could compare the three great classic English makes directly back-to-back. First, the brush -- I face lathered with it today and it performed superbly. Lots of creamy lather slathered on my face without any difficulty. The knot has plenty of backbone, loads lots of soap well, and even on the first use has very little scritch. I can already tell it will be a great knot. The brush does smell a little funky right now, but that's already diminishing with a couple of test latherings and one use. And the handle feels as nice in the hand as it looks.

The cream -- having tried the sandalwood offerings from Salter, Trumper and TOBS in turn, I still prefer the TOBS cream overall by a bit. Easy to lather, good scent, and excellent shaving performance and face feel. I also like the sandalwood, which is a fairly pure woody one. Trumper is very very close to TOBS all around. I would put Salter just a hair behind the others for performance, and I find its "Indian Sandalwood" scent has too much citrus and spice in it for a "genuine" sandalwood. And for a mixed scent with sandalwood in it, I think I prefer TOBS Mr. Taylor's. To be honest, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these three makers' creams for shaving performance. Having said that, I will not be dumping any of my tubs of TOBS in favour of Trumper or Salter offerings.

The shave -- I bumped the Fatboy up from my usual #4 to setting #6 just for the heck of it. A good clean two-pass DFS with silent alum resulted. I may have to consider moving my Gillette adjustables up a couple notches permanently...

I generally mix and match soaps and aftershaves with the exception of Fine soaps and aftershaves.

 

I'm a happy Ming Shi 2000S user! The Merkur Futur was admired from afar because of the much higher price. After reading about folks who had tried both and found the Clones to shave as well as the Originals I jumped in.
I think Neal @NCoxSTL had a problem with his Q-Shave, something went wobbly? Many new owners have also tried to find solutions to the somewhat slippery handle. There's also an issue with making sure you put the cap on the correct way. Only two options and it's easy to do it right. Besides those issues it's a beautiful copy of the patent expired design. The adjustment in smooth rather than having click stops. At the lowet mild setting I found it difficult to find the blade/beard zone, but after adjusting upward my setting of 4-1/5 to 5 does a smooth aggressive reduction. It offers fairly loud audio feedback if you like to hear your razor working. Not too finicky about blades as I recall so what ever brand you prefer should be good.
Bang for the buck I'd say a good investment. No Enabling is complete without a photo?

I wish I could remember where I got my R41 head. It was from a European vendor, and it cost less than $15. It pays to check out the non-U.S. vendors.

I found it for less than $20here: https://www.shaving.ie/products/muhle-replacement-head-r41-oc.html This vendor has great prices on other items too. His Simpson brush inventory is sometimes pretty lean, but this is where I picked up my Chubby 2.
