I have a PAA Bay Rum Soap that smells just like opening a jar of pickles. Oddly enough I like it!

I think the magic behind this method is that it allows you to incorporate water without adding volume.

 

That makes sense. This is my favorite method by far.

 

I actually kind of like the almost melted ice cream consistency, especially when using a straight or a shavette. Very runny, but very shiny.

 

Is it glossy or shiny? If not, it still likely doesn't have enough water.

 

I broke my Feather AC focus today. I really liked this blade in the Feather and decided to try it in my Mongoose.

Shaved earlier today, but haven’t had a chance to post until now. Continuing with using some neglected or never used Sandalwood soaps and creams. Up today was the classic TOBS version. Used to use this in my travel kit all the time, but I don’t think I’ve pulled it out for at least 6 months, if not longer. Face lathered the usual, easy TOBS lather. Changed out the Astra for a PermaSharp Super and had 3 nice passes with this traditionally scented cream. I’m much more used to this scent compared to the Trumpers. More familiar, but not necessarily better. Within the same range of classic, British Sandalwoods (Crabtree and Evelyn has more of an Eastern Spice vibe to it, to my nose, fwiw).
I find the PermaSharps to be just that, sharp, and ended up chasing the baby a bit. Was rewarded, but also got a weeper on my chin for my troubles that wouldn’t stop for a bit. Finishing with the Barbershop always seems like a good idea.
I’m off work until the middle of next week and we have some family stuff planned. Looking forward to it.

Or when it starts to disappear. Good quality soaps will almost turn to the consistency of thick soup and stay that way if you have too much water. Not so good soap just fades away and disappears.

When I build a lather, I am shooting for it to look like soft serve ice cream that is on the verge of melting, but not just quite.

This was pretty good, but I added a little more water when it was on my face.

A hard landing and a new blade left me with a little reminder not to rush with the painstick. I think the way a guy needs to sort of daintily hold a traditional straight, like he’s eating finger sandwiches at a tea, avoids the hamfisted clumsiness I am sometimes guilty of with a painstick.

Shave 10 of 30

So the last time I shaved was Friday... wow. So much for a 30 day focus in March. Will be way into April by now. Four days without shaving gave me a lot of growth to work with. I thought about shaving last night, but as I no longer have a clean shaving requirement for work I said screw it, and decided to go to work today with the beginnings of a beard. But by this evening it had to come off.

Everything has stayed the same, but I decided to try some Baum.Be I had. It had a nice clean scent and did a decent job. A fresh blade in the shavette and I went to town. It was essentially a single pass shave, N to S along the cheeks and then S to N for the neck. I did have to do a second pass on the jaw line, the upper lip, and the chin well that took a bit. But I got it. Mostly. Enough to give me a clean look without a bunch of chin hairs. I'm actually surprised I didn't nick myself there. There were a few nicks on the jaw and neck, but nothing that required the nick stick. And the alum was 97.962% silent, even along the chin which was a bigger surprise.

I did have to break out the Schick E3 to touch up some spots on the neck and upper lip. I had enough of the shavette and as much as I was enjoying my shave was ready for it to end.

Overall a pretty good shave.
