Found one place so far with a kamisori but they want 220 for it. Not ready to drop that much on a first blade lol.

Plus, are you going to buy a traditional grind to start out with?

I still need to get stones and strops

As long as the blade is properly honed you should be able to get by with a strop and maybe a pasted strop. Then you can add just a finishing stone.

The most important thing is to start with a properly honed razor. To that end maybe buying in Japan is not a good idea unless you can be certain it is properly honed.

A nice shave, but the blade is getting tired. It will need to be replaced tomorrow.

Another great shave this morning. The C.O. Bigelow was easy to lather as expected. Sticking with the ATG pass first followed by XTG and ATG ended in a near perfect shave. My lower right neck proved to be my nemesis. A splash of Fine Platinum and I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Monday.

Day #2 of the current edition of "Barbasol/Clubman Special Reserve". Oh man, if there was a Clubman Special Reserve Shave Soap???!!!!. Someday, there probably WILL be. I suppose before this, Doc Pinaud will have made a size increase of the current Clubman Shave Soap from 2-4 oz. (You recall my small beef about that soap....it actually smells more like Clubman Vanilla, but they list it as regular Clubman).

    Razor: Baili Updated Tech clone
    Blade: German Wilkie (2)
    Brush: VdH Boar
    Soap: Williams
    Post: Alum

Today was my second shave with the updated Baili Tech clone (BR171?). Not quite as smooth a shave as yesterday with some more noticeable blade feel. I'm not sure if something is going on with the Wilkie or if I unconsciously compensated for perceived issues with yesterday's shave. Either way, it was definitely closer but I ended up with a weeper under my nose and a bit of sting from the Alum.

FWIW, in case anyone else is looking for a good deal on these razors, I bought mine from here.

I agree on the Nivea. I use it 90% of the time... love it!

That's good. Formals like this make me glad we had sons instead of daughters. Still drama... but less drama.

That is a beautiful brush handle, Clint. You always have such cool photo set-ups.

That is a beautiful Tech, Jason! Love it!

Every time I fall behind I feel like I was back in high school ignoring my homework and dreading the moment when I HAVE TO GET IT DONE!
The razor is in great shape!

Jared, I buy these blades locally. The ones on the right are the ones I prefer. They're stainless steel and they shave extremely well and comfortably. I can get about a week's worth of shaves comfortably... YMMV. The ones on the left are sharp and comfortable for several shaves too, but it's extremely important to wipe and dry the blade right away because they're not coated and they'll rust overnight.

You didn't happen to use a carpet cutter blade, did you? :p
