Congrats on being an experienced technique trained User of a non-Newbie blade! There are those that find them too sharp. I've read some opinions suggesting that Feather blades smooth out on the second shave. Can't say I payed much attention, but I like them, too.

Thanks Rick! I had heard they are harsh on the first shave and smooth out on the second too. I wasn't sure what to expect. The first pass on the first use was an eye opener. Surprising to me how much of a difference a blade makes. The Astras are very smooth in my other razors but kinda tuggy in the S1. Anxious to try the Feathers in my other razors. I'm going to finish out the month with the S1 and switch up for April.

It was a fun trip and we are now back at home. I have tried to keep up with reading posts, albeit superficially at times, and haven't had the time to comment on all the great photos, set ups and shave results.
I am looking forward to shaving here at home tomorrow and keeping up with the thread a little better!

 

I have used the SS PTFE blades and like them. However, at the suggestion of @wchnu , I used CVS Carbon blades for my rule, or most of it anyway, with the MMOC. I pulled the blade out and dried it thoroughly every evening and left it out of the razor until the next shave and easily got 3 shaves with each blade.

How about a quick tutorial on getting a super slick, super cushy and super amount of lather from Proraso. Load up your brush, dip the tip of the loaded brush in some water, then face lather. Instant explosion of lather and enough that I could have supplied lather to everybody on here for today's shave. Awesomely easy, slick, comfortable and effective.

Two passes and touch ups and the baby was in the house again and the alum was silent thanks to the Astra SP's awesomeness. This was the first Russian blade I ever tried and the first one I bought in bulk. Using it on my face instead of just my head reminds me of why I like it so much.

I thought the Tabac would go down this week but it does not look possible. A nice shave with Japanese steel.

Tabac doesn't die. It slips out like shinobi in the darkness, leaving us full of wonder and longing...soap nostalgia, as it were.

 

We've notified the other signatory cartels about your Tsar Bomba soap test in advance, lest anyone think we are reckless and impulsive gangsters. Also, on vacation last week, there was a "Party Patrol" in the afternoon. They set up a cement mixer rigged with a water hose and soap pickup. I would tell you that an actual bikini foam party ensued, but that would violate my cartel-ness to the core, so we should just keep that between you, me and @Keithmax. Also, from the Kyoto office, a memo. Keith has graciously offered to be the foam party Rapid Response Team coordinator for not only The Peninsula, but South and Far East Asia as well. Basically if Vlad isn't flying a flag over it, Keith has got it from Seoul. He's even got Beijing privileges if the unthinkable happens and the PLA gets overwhelmed poolside. Abrupt...but I like Astra too. As soon as the horrid Sharp Star....

 

Good to know it's all covered. Excellent news and thanks for letting the members of the shaving federation know about the soap test. I would have hated to have started a lather war due to lack of due diligence. I'm glad we didn't let the news about the bikini foam party out to the public. Thanks for your discretion. I'll send a cable to Keith's private lair thanking him for the good work in his corner of the world. Beijing privileges - quite a feather in his cap. Did he also reach out to the short fat crazy guy from the northern peninsula who is visiting there at the moment?

 

I was about to point out that I have, indeed, finished a puck of Tabac. Except I remembered that I took the remaining chunks out of the Tabac container and mixed it with the Mitchell's chunks to make Fatbac. And I have yet to run out of that. Miraculous stuff, really.

Another great BBS shave with this set up. A little alum burn on the neck, which I come to expect, alum doesn't really agree with my skin, but it I use it anyway, for now. With this set up I've even be able to get the upper lip BBS which is pretty amazing. Have great morning everyone.

Skip the Alum then! Just use it once in a while as a benchmark. Good going! It's all fine tuning now.

 

Try this:

Put some Alum inside your elbow, let it dry, see what happens. That will confirm or refute Alum as adding to irritation.
