    Screwtape A Shaving Butterfly

Wednesday March 28 - finishing the discontinued soap samples
    Rockwell 6S on plate #3 / Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless (2)
    Simpsons Chubby 2 Synthetic brush
    The Dry Dock shave bowl
    B&M Latha Lavanda soap
Alum and TSD Lavender Milk Aftershave

I used up the last little sample tub from the discontinued Latha line today -- Lavanda. As the name suggests, it's a straightforward lavender scent. And a fairly strong one -- for the Latha line. Which means the scent was pleasant during the shave but fainter than the similar lavender scent I get from all my other lavender creams and soaps...

Good shave. I went two and a half passes today -- I lathered up my jawline a third time and did cleanup buffings along there to try to get the small patches of sandpapery bristles that normally survive my standard shave. I got them and enjoyed a BBS today. However, while the alum wasn't too loud about it, half an hour after the shave, my jawline is feeling a bit hot and dry. That third pass was too much there, as usual, which is the reason I usually skip it. I think I will go slap some Nivea Sensitive balm on it and settle the problem.

I have been putting my Latha samples in my shave bowl, leaving any slight unused soap in it and just placing the next sample over top. Today, there is enough soap built up in the bowl for another shave. Therefore, tomorrow I will shave with a soap comprising a melange of all of the Latha soaps. After that, I will move on to some current B&M samples (Bay Rum, Seville and Reserve Cool), and then to some samples of First Canadian, Soapy Bathman and possibly Fendrihan. That will finish up my sample box and take me into the first week of April.

Hope everybody is looking down the slope of the hump to a great rest of the week!

Switched to the LC today for comparison to the SC I’ve used all month. Moved the PermaSharp over as it still felt good yesterday (and this is SCIENCE!). Face lathered a great Jeeves lather and had two super passes with a little touch up. I’d call this a 2 pass DFS. I love this razor, it just feels so smooth. I’ll use it for a 3 pass shave next time, just for science.
    Have a great day all!

The Fat and Tabac both desire monogamous relationships, and are well suited to that. The frustration comes from OUR philandering around in a world brimming with sexy young soaps that smell nice.

Nice looking set up, Keith. If you can’t kill that Tabac with a big ‘Pro, it might be indestructible.
Lazy is good if the shaves are, Jim!
A great start to the day, Clint! Stunning photo as well.
Awesome set up, Andrew! Is that razor one of the prototypes?
You are doing incredibly well with that shavette, Patrick... you need to start thinking about MAYhem!
Zero need to apologize, Bruce. Great write up.
Very informative write-up, John. I love B&M soaps, but am not sorry to hear of the Latha line’s demise.

Found out that my wife's grandfather still has his late 60s/early 70s Gillette Tech (Aluminium handle/made in england)... They didn't think you could still get blades... Hooking him up with a pack of Astra SPs and a Palmolive shave stick!

Thanks, Jason! Not a prototype, but it is a bit of a unicorn razor. They don't come around very often.

I've been seriously considering getting a soap after my Proraso is through, and MWF and Tabac have been at the forefront of my thoughts about what to buy! What's the usual expected lifespan of these soaps when one is not using a soap destroyer brush?

I couldn't believe how light it was! He bought it for going on exercise when he was in the army... It's in a neat little leather case... Still has his styptic pencil in there too!

These soaps are so hard that you would probably be lucky to use use .25 - .5g per shave. so lets say about 250 shaves minimum.

    Brush: Barbury's synthetic
    Soap: Williams
    Razor: Schick Krona
Blade: Feather (unk number of shaves)
Post-shave: Dickinson's Original WH, Nivea Men Sensitive PS Balm, Aqua Velva AS

I know... my focus this month has been on the CJB pain stick and I didn't use it today. After a less than stellar stubble cutting issue on Monday I had planned to use a fresh blade. But today is the day one of our dogs had an appointment with the Vet's for a teeth cleaning procedure and I had the displeasure to take her there early this morning. Normally, this dog (Blanca) is fearless. She has a Type A personality and has to be reminded who's the boss from time to time. However, there are two things in life which she fears, dreads, dislikes or whatever: 1) A bath... she'll whimper and cry as if she's being murdered like Janet Leigh's character in the classic movie, Psycho; and, 2) The Vet's clinic. When I took her in last month for routine shots and a check-up this 75 pound "fearless" canine tried to crawl under the seat I was on in the exam room. This morning I had to help them escort her to the pre-op room where they could prep her.... she gave me a pitiful, "Dad, they want to do terrible things to me!" look. She was quivering and stared at me, with such sad eyes, as I finally left her with the staff, pleading for me to take her with me. She looked something like this.... but 10x worse:

So, I felt a little bad. Our other lab, was more than happy to be the only dog at home today and welcomed me home with glee. I decided to shower and shave when I got home so I would be available if the Clinic called me sooner than they estimated. I looked at the pain stick. I intended to use it. Then I looked at the cut on my ear from a week ago, which still hasn't completely healed yet. I decided that I had better not use an open blade razor in case I lose focus today and slice through an artery, thus prolonging Blanca's stay at the Clinic because dad bled out.

I just wanted a quick and easy shave today. So I went with the Krona. Inspired by a question Rick @RyX had the other day on another Thread I dropped in a Feather blade. Now understand, I first used this blade back in January, but I haven't used it for several weeks. I do not know how many shaves it has. I think it has at least a dozen shaves. However, I can tell you it's still sharp and smooth. Quite impressive!

I did two easy passes and easily achieved a CFS.

    Happy shaves everyone!

P.S. I spoke with the Vet a little while ago. Blanca's procedure went very well. She's resting and I can pick her up in a couple of hours.
