That is the proper thing to do when something sharp follows you home, isn’t it?

It helps that I have my own "den" now, but my wife spent an hour looking through Amazon the other night for more pictures/decor - all shaving related - to see what I might want to add. She's not a fan of my Putin calendar and thinks some other things would be nice. She is the one who bought the Barber Shop rug for the floor and also new face towels for that room. I can never complain about how she handles my ummm......hobby? Passion? Obsession - well whatever she is a good one to have around. Her philosophy - there are worse hobbies out there.

I’m having a bit of a struggle. I got four new razors and a soap and splash set in the mail today. I’m doing a rule. I have three days worth of whiskers. Should I make an exception?

    April 6

    Hello everyone!

I plan to jump back into the 30DC party for April. I will continue my focus with the Parker SRX. That will give me about about three months with it as my primary razor, even though I've occasionally used a cart for a quick shave.

@Drygulch I finished up my tub of CF Lavender yesterday. This was a great performing and smelling shave cream, and I would consider buying it again.

I now plan to use up a puck of Mike's Natural Soap with a few bits of Jabonman Eufros mixed in the container.

Today's shave included two passes with the Parker SRX loaded with a new Perma-Sharp Super blade. The Soap Destroyer whipped up a mountain of lather using the Mike's Natural Soap. Mike's is one of my favorite soaps. It is protective, slick, and just feels good on my skin. I finished with some witch hazel, USB, and Alt-Innsbruck. Except for one speed-induced, self-inflicted boo boo, it was a great shave.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

No. Rules take precedence. No way can you make an exception. New razors and soaps? Boring! Let them sit in a drawer. I wouldn't make an exception. Ever! (Unless I wanted to then, well you know, yeah, but that's me. I'm weak. You're strong.)

Shortly after I discovered Wet Shaving I mentioned it to my mother.

"Mom, guess what I discovered? Soap!"

She looked at me with that I've changed your diapers, and made you take baths when you were a child stink eye. Not sure what her opinion of my bearded years was, but now I occasionally share products with her. She likes raw shea butter as a hand lotion alternative.

Friday April 6 - again with the samples

    Gillette Black Beauty on 4 / Gillette 7 O'clock Super Stainless ( 3 )
30DC LE Maple Cashmere synthetic brush
    The Dry Dock shave bowl
    First Canadian Maximo Gomez sample
Alum and Thayers Witch Hazel Rose Petal and Lucky Tiger

Jason @jtspartan kindly sent me a good-sized sample of First Canadian's soap to try and its turn at bat came today. It seems like a harder soap than the Barrister Reserve and Glissant soaps although not multiply milled like some of the traditional European ones. I was able to spread the sample in my shave bowl. It has a good strong scent, especially compared to the discontinued B+M Latha line. Full disclosure: I'm allergic to tobacco smoke so I tend to dislike tobacco scents. Having said that, this one smelled like a very high quality cigar in a humidor, so I would say for a tobacco scent, it's a good one.

The synthetic easily whipped up a bowlful of glossy lather from the sample. It was very slick with excellent protectiveness and a good face feel. And the scent lasted throughout the shave. It's a very good soap. If I were in the market for more soap, I would certainly include First Canadian on my list of ones to look at -- in something other than a tobacco scent.

Jason says that FC is in his "top tier" of soap makers. I am not sure I would put it there myself, but then, I am also not sure if I even have a "top tier" of soaps anymore. My many soaps and creams have mostly been divided into two tiers: those I enjoy using or at least don't mind using because they give me a decent shave, and those that are now in the handsoap bucket or the garbage... FC is at least in my "would be willing to buy it" tier...

Overall a good shave to start off the weekend.

What if I used a 40 year old DE blade from an estate sale? Then it’s science, right?

Sounds like an opportunity to shave your left cheek with one new razor, the right with another, chin with the third, and your neck with the fourth. Obviously the new soap and splash need to be used as well.

Such restraint... do all blades count in that?

Jeez, John. Sorry, I didn’t know about your allergy. I do stand by what I said for this soap- one of my top soaps. It had looked like First Canadian might have pulled the plug, and I bought an extra tub of this soap when I thought so. However, it appears that they have been bought by different owners, who have a new line of products, as well as some ‘holdovers’ from the previous makers- including Maximo Gomez. Nice new website as well. They are making splashes now, too. I think I will pick up one or two other products from them when my NB is over.

Looks like three razors to me, Adam, if you count the meat cleaver! :happy102:

Safety first! Don't run with the scissors.
