If they made a Brut, or Aqua Velva scent that we be awesome! I will re order from them, this time the real thing, not just samples.
I remember not being a skin bracer fan, but I have found a new appreciation for AV/IB. If this scent wasn't an older classic type, somebody would be getting 'primo dollars' today as new. Lasts and is fresh. Not offensive if over applied IMO. Somewhere back up the line I was able to draw the attention of one @Paul Turner by calling it an 'Aqua Velva Overcoat' when I used it to bury the smell of that 'hippy girl' soap. Maybe I should use the acronym AVO, or AVT (Aqua Velva Toplaquer) when I pull that move.
Well that's the thing-you drew my attention but never explained what you meant by Aqua Velva Overcoat until just now
I believe the Brut Scent has changed a little. I think I recall someone with old stock commenting the same. I have always used the splash on variety because I like the alcohol sensation. Once, The Lovely Mrs Headroom inadvertently got me the cologne. I thought it was too easy to overdo it, so I really didn't care for it
Max Headroom is issuing the official disclaimer that; "It is NOT okay to drown hippy girls in Aqua Velva" just because they stink!
Your description of Texas On Fire makes me want to see how it might compare to CF's Midnight Stag. Actually, I had the aftershave of that while you're talkinabout TOF soap. But scent is scent, of course. I didn;t give Midnight Stag a fair chance, as I had it during the heat of the summer. Well, there's one lesson perhaps-if I want Texas On Fire, it won't be in the summer!!
I do get a hint of what can only be described as "swampy"reminds me of visiting the everglades down in south Florida, and being knee deep in mud. It's not a bad smell, it's is over the top, and leaves the bathroom (shave den/ man cave) with the scent for a while. I finished it off with Brut, the new stuff, and I think the pairing is wonderful. The Brut has a bit sweeter smell, but still compliments the soap. It's hard to describe, and my nose may smell it all differently than you.
Wow - what a scent! I really love Piacenza. Citrusy with a clean, soapy note that is terrific. When I use Stirling after being away from it I often wonder why I have any other brand of soap.
Time for The Max Headroom - Stirling Fanboy Report. This week..... Sandalwood SS, Vanilla Sandalwood SS, Black Cherry SS. I find these scents pleasant, maybe even fun to shave with and have no problem with my typical AS splash, but I'd rather not carry them around all day. Tuscany - surprised me, I might be able to go for AS splash on this one. Sweet and complex, but light. Definitely worth a shot. Mountain Man - another surprise for me. I'll probably get a sample size of AS splash of this too. This also needs to be on the must try list if you are gonna be a real Stirling Fanboy. Bay Rum - I didn't think I would be a Bay Rum runner and I was right. This was my first test of anything of this scent. It is interesting an not offensive to shave with, I just don't want smell like that all day, so I whipped out the Glacial Lemon AS Splash sample. This was the first time I used this without a balm first. Man-oh-Man I gotta get me some more of this. I whacked the pirates mug hard and when my face unpuckered and thawed, there wasn't aarrgh pirate in sight. The Bay Rum had left the house. For what it is worth, reports are Glacial MITA and Glacial Black Cherry will make the scene in May. I'm in line here. And if Rod shows up, somebody tell him about the Brut and Aqua Velva requests. Thanks for tuning in. Max Headroom out. p.s. - I may just have to get a sample of Electric Sheep just so I can say I tried the skeeter chaser.
Just got an E-mail from Doc&Nurse Ezlovan...announcing the summer additions. I'm anxious to try Island Man...but, it'll have to be NEXT summer Funny-they said Glacial Wintergreen is "back"....I still have a lot left from when I bought mine, so it never LEFT my den.
Thanks for the commentary on Mtn. Man......I had that as a sample once and thought it might be worth a full-sizer. It isn't off my table as a possible choice for 2019..soap/A,S.
I just placed my order. Island Man, Iced Pineapple, Lime Coconut and Tuscany. Also Glacial unscented balm and Glacial Island Man splash.
I decided to steer away from the "Texas Wildfire " tonight and go a complete 180. Being from Arkansas, I had to try the "Ozark Mountain scent" It is a complete 180 from the other scent I tried. I do like it, for what it is, a simple smelling soap that blossoms into something much more complex. I catch a bit of citrus, some type of evergreen "cedar" perhaps, and a bit of magical mystical fog, that can old be smelled when walking through the woods on a cool crisp early spring, or early fall morning. It is crisp, and light and airy, with a touch of an underlying tone of maybe juniper? It takes me back to squirrel hinting with Grandpa, and hiking through the woods with cousins. It is autumn, and spring all mixed together then when that fades away, you are left with a complex multi level smell that is familiar, but fleeting. Order a sample, see if you like it. It will be one that I order a full size of.
Will be interesting to see when I first use Wintergreen this late spring/summer. Been a chilly spring so far.
Now that the weather is getting warmer here(well, kinda sorta somewhat lol), I want to make sure I use at least one Stoylin soap(Barbershop and Spice)before it gets REAL warm. Will go with Barbershop later this week(w/Clubman Original A.S.). I think it'll be just the one, the way my rotation is going...that is unless I get greedy and sli[p in the Spice .
