Monday April 16 - Menthol Monday

Supply Co V.2 SE injector on two - dot plate / Personna (? )
JR #276 white ash and boar brush
    Vitos Eucalyptus shaving cream
    Alum and Osage Rub

I think I will stick with this setup for the next while -- alternating my Jayaruh boar brushes but otherwise keeping everything else the same. No shave bowl because I am face lathering the cream. I will continue until one or all of three things happen: the brushes stop smelling of funky wet boar, the tub of cream runs out or the blade in the razor falls apart. (I think the blade is on use 4 now).

Usual two passes to the usual good shave with no irritation detected by the alum, as usual. Then the Osage Rub froze my face...

Just read up on the shaving cream. How does it compare to Proraso?

Actually, I'm pleased you brought that up-I read a similar explanation, probably referring to the pimento racemosa. I guess my issue is I don't like if the clove overpowers the bay.

    SOTD 4.16.2018 (Menthol Monday)
Face Shave (24 hrs) and Head Shave (Several Days, I don't remember how many)
    Pre-shave: hot shower
    Brush: Marvy's boar
Soap + Cream: Scalpmaster + Cremo Cooling Shave Cream
    Razor: Schick E3
    Blade: Schick (2)
Post-shave: Dickinson's Original WH, Nivea Men Sensitive Cooling AS Balm, Skin Bracer

I haven't used the Cremo Shave Cream in a tube for a long time, and I don't like the lack of lather from it so I augmented it with the Scalpmaster soap puck. I loaded the brush with Scalpmaster and I transferred it to my suribachi bowl. Then I added the Cremo and together they mixed up well into a nice lather for both a face shave and a head shave.

Second day in a row for the E3 and another fine shave. There's really not much more I can say about it. It was a terrific shave all around.

    Have a great week everyone!

I assume you mean Proraso Green, the Eucalyptus and Menthol one? Because that's the one most directly comparable. I have the four "standard" Proraso creams but have never tried their three new scented ones.

Been awhile since I used Proraso Green but my recollection is the Proraso has more of a cooling tingle because of the menthol and camphor in it on top of the eucalyptus but the eucalyptus is stronger in the Vitos.

OTOH the Vitos may be slicker with a bit better postshave feel, because both have glycerin and coconut oil in them, but the Vitos also has tallow and lanolin -- I think Proraso is vegan.

Pretty much a flip of the coin though. The truth? Both brands are around the same level in terms of quality -- upper level commercial makes. If you have one brand and like it, I don’t think you need to feel you're missing out at all by not trying the other, and vice versa.

In fact, thinking back, I compared these creams more or less head to head when I got them all last year. I ended up mixing all my Italian traditional-style soft almond soaps together in one tub because I couldn't tell them apart anyway (Cella, Vitos Red, Vitos Green, Valobra and 3P). I didn't mix the Vitos Eucalyptus, Omega Menthol / Eucalyptus and Proraso Green creams together because I didn't have a suitable container; otherwise I probably would have...

Thank you. I did mean the green. I also have the new Proraso Single Edge Cypress & Vetiver. I find it to be bit slicker and better than the green.

If you have one brand really the only reason to get the other is for differences in scent: Vitos now has a Tobacco scent which Proraso doesn't, and Proraso has the Sandalwood (Red) and the three fancy new ones. For performance, in a blind trial, most users probably couldn't tell them apart.

Happy birthday, my friend! I never get tired of that soap label. I want to buy one for that label alone. It just rocks in pictures.
