Good news on both counts, Clint!

Several volunteers bring their canine therapy dogs to the children's hospital where I volunteer. It means so much to the kids and even the staff. I'm with kids that spend so much time in the hospital that it becomes their way of life. I'm sure it's much the same with adult facilities. This is a fantastic way to bring some enjoyment and normalcy into their lives. You will be a tremendous blessing to others through your volunteer work, Clint.

I am still years away Charlie. My Beligan Malinois, Mocha is too old and too aggressive to pursue volunteer work. With the next pup, I will keep the volunteer goal in mind from the beginning. It has been my goal to give back to the community during my retirement. However, I don't want it to be doing something that I used to do at work.

I can identify. I refuse to size any heat exchangers or pumps in retirement. ;)

OK, I'm soliciting opinions about the use of Proraso Crema Pre Barba, also know as preshave soap. I went shopping hoping to find Proraso Red sandalwood AS lotion, but my guy was out of stock. So since several of y'all have been enjoying the preshave I picked one up today. From the jar it smells much like the Green soap, or COBigelow cream. My local connection - the owner of a one location pharmacy said he leaves it on, lathers over the preshave. Seems like I recall one of the 30 DC also doing it this way, and someone else rinsing it off then applying lather.
From the Official Proraso website they just say,"Wet your face and apply the Proraso Pre-Shaving Cream. Massage with circular movements and do not rinse. Shave normally with soap or shaving cream."
Since the maker recommends leaving it on I'll give that a shot. Apparently the high glycerin content is supposed to assist in enhancing the glide of the soap lather.

Both versions come with three plates ranging from light or mild to aggressive. Marked with dots on the back.

The biggest change between v1 and v2 was the addition of finishes other than matte stainless -- v2 comes in stainless or black and matte or high polish of each. Beyond that, they did a bit of tinkering. The bladestops were made smaller and less obtrusive, the head dimensions were shaved a bit to match, and supposedly the shaving angle was a bit different.

They also fixed a bug in the first model -- the plates didn't fit in perfectly tight and could wobble if you pressed them at the bottom edge with your thumb. Predictably some people saw this as a desirable feature instead -- you could drop the blade out simply by pushing on the bottom of the plate and shaking the razor sideways rather than having to use an injector key. And they classify their v1's as "the one with the easy blade change feature"...

Both work fine. I preferred my v2, mainly because I liked the black finish and the somewhat smaller and cleaner looking head. Also I prefer parts that fit solidly together...

I have the sensitive skin pre shave from Proraso. I wet my face, apply the pre shave and leave it on while I whip up a lather. I don't rinse it off, I lather over the top. To be honest, I don't notice a difference in the quality of shave using it vs not using it.

I sure do. It adds a little menthol to every shave. Very refreshing.

I like the scent of the White soap, so if I see any positive effects I might get it, too. Only other preshave I've tried was Shave Secret. It's an oil that just didn't do anything for me. Also a slight bay rum scent, not my favorite.

Hey Jim! Do you see any positive effects using this product beyond the added menthol? I'll be trying it out next shave and want to know what I'm watching out for. Cooling menthol is a great selling feature but I'm hoping for added glide from the glycerin.

The Proraso pre shave is the only pre shave I have tried. It does provide a nice menthol kick as @Jayaruh has said.

I am not sure how to answer your question. I have been using it for so long, and I get great shaves with all types of soaps and creams that I lather on top of the Proraso Preshave. I believe it adds a positive uptick to any shave. Give it a try. I have tried the white, but I prefer the green much more.

Scent is low on my priorities when choosing a soap. It's still a determining factor especially if it's a negative. Like Williams and the dissipating lather that some have had problems with - if it's still slick I don't need foam to see where I haven't shaved yet. It's nice to have the visual clue but more important is that my razor moves smoothly across my beard.
