Well, I'm already intrigued. The Fuzzy one @wchnu said he'd send me a Lather Catcher to try out. Since I liked the MMOC he figures he'll try to get me stuck on another SE razor. I opened the box, expecting to find a cool old razor and......this is what I found.

Not one, but two lather catchers. The Kampfe Star and the Gem Junior. Plus what appears to be a travel razor that I haven't identified yet. Oh, and don't forget the Island Hopper soap sample and the Treet Carbon blades. When he sends a razor he really sends a razor!

I'm thinking I'll finish with my third shave on the Slim tomorrow night then wade into these. I have Wait's pulled up doing some historical and background work and really looking forward to giving these things a run for their money. The great enabler from the Bayou strikes again!

Well-done, Patrick! Hope the weather improves for you soon.... We had a blizzard a week ago today, but I'm hoping we're out of the Winter Woods for a few months now. Fingers crossed!

Saturday Shave:

It seems we skipped spring, it is a warm one today so I opted out of the focus to use some R66. A very smooth edge on the W&B and nice start to the weekend. Now off to the gym.

The travel razor is a simplex. I picked up several of them because they had a tube of williams cream with them. Ended up being brushless. But it is still a vintage williams product. The GEM Jr. Bar was my first LC. The guy that started the original TOS gave it to me. Happy shaves!!!

Third shave with the Karve in the books. Used the B plate again, got a nice BBS shave, alum sung a little, I always over shave with a milder setup. The area under my chin, and jaw line are impossible for me to get clean with over shaving a pinch. The Aqua Velva finish felt fantastic, and smells great. I will maybe try the C plate with the Rapira tomorrow, and hope I don't get cut up too bad. Have great weekend gentlemen.

Interesting to read the reports on the Karve razor, gentlemen! Maybe not so good for my budget and my NB'18 though... If you could assure us that it's a rotten razor and not worth getting, that would be very helpful -- feel free to lie if you have to.

 

Saturday April 21 early hours shave - glycerin preshave experiment 2.0

Pre: thorough rinse followed by glycerin on damp face
Supply Co V.2 SE injector on two - dot plate / Personna ( 8)
JR #276 white ash and boar brush
Vitos Eucalyptus shaving cream
Alum and Osage Rub

I repeated yesterday's shave exactly except for using glycerin first. Unlike my first use of glycerin, I rubbed a dab the size of a quarter all over my damp face instead of practically bathing in the stuff. Even with the more sparing use of the glycerin, I did indeed detect a bit of extra slickness in today's shave compared to yesterday's glycerin-free one. And since I face lathered with an Omega-knot boar this time exactly the same as I did yesterday, the difference cannot be attributed to better lather.

My revised conclusion: preshave glycerin can make a small incremental improvement in the slickness of a shave. The shaving cream I am using is a good quality product that already provides excellent slickness, glide and protection, so the difference is small. With a drier product, it might be more pronounced. It does lead me to think that a preshave balm might be worth exploring, however, particularly in winter when my skin suffers from the dryness.

Btw, the shave was excellent and provided a refreshing break in what is looking like the beginning of a very very long weekend on call...

Up early today, long languid shower and full 3 pass shave all very pleasant indeed.
Relaxing coffee and then out on the bike. 50 miles under the wheels at a decent clip and the warmth was just lovely.
Got back just as the ladies were back from dance, Now for second quick shower then garden rubbish runs BBQ tonight with Mrs H , tis a decent Saturday that's for sure. Have a good one folks
