In what order to do you put the shim and blade?

Blade goes on the cap first followed by the shim.

 

Hit a honey-hole yard sale today. Among other things I came hone with were two cased 4 piece travel DE and a Kewtie. Normally I would pass on the kewtie, but was complete in its original house with all the blades. The DE razors are a unnamed but stamped "British made" and a Hoffritz Slant. The handle on the Hoffritz has the typical frosting. All three look to be unused and in great condition.

 

April has been a great month!

Went off script today and won this! Rotbart 5007 set complete with (rough) shipper!

Now the waiting starts...

 

I did not even know they used a slant for any of those sets. Veddy nice!!

 

Just a couple of things ...



All I did was clean the brush, and yes thats the original gold lettering. Sorry about the bad pic of the mug ... looks minty in person.

Wow! Congrats. What a classic collection. I'd love to see them all lined up at attention. The BD is the only razor (1918) in my collection that I can't seem to tame. It so aggressive more so than my R41 or Old Types which I can use easily. Tried about a dozen blades still a rough shave. Anyway still love it but I only use it on Veterans and Memorial day.

 

Except for the Calabash Pipe Decanter, all of the others are full..........

 

Ask and you shall receieve. This is my last group photo and it lacks the newest 1918, the 1916, and the No.17 set...

And this one is a full set in silver/nickel . Oldest (1914) to newest (1921) left to right...

Full disclosure... There are rumors Bulldogs were made as late as 1924 but I've never seen one later than 1921 and I would think that they would have been stepping on the New Improved's toes. IDK...

 

Wow!!! That’s cool! Any chance you got an extra case laying around ? I need one of the small ones for my bulldog!

 

Sadly, no. I have 18 bulldogs but only 8 are in cases. It will be a life long task to case the rest I think. They do come up on eBay from time to time but if memory serves they go for around $85.00 to $90.00...

Just received my Mondesir Razor. I do believe this is a NOS (or close to it) set. It came with 3 each of 3 versions of Mondesir razor blades as well as the razor tag also thrown in were 11 Rondinella razor blades. The razor has some heft to it. The fit and finish isn’t spectacular as the head fits the base too snugly and the machining of the knob still had a metal spur that I picked off. I’m excited to see how it shaves tomorrow.
