Seppuku was reserved for the Samurai, assisted by a kaishakunin. Harakiri was for all the brave ones. They dient have a second to cut the head off at the end.
The first cut has to be horizontal, the next one vertical, and if you have guts you add a crisscross And as only samurai had a katana or wakizashi harakiri was in general performed with a knive instead of the sword. Seppuku could only be commanded to a samurai, an honorful deathpenalty was not possible for common people.
