I'm also quickly becoming a fan of the C plate. It's efficient enough the last few shaves I've really had to focus on no pressure. Which makes the C a great teaching tool.

I “cartoonized” today’s pic because it was the closest filter I could find to Roger Rabbit, and the Kent brush is seriously, that stupid big. I love it.

The Henckels is still holding a good edge, but I missed the baby today, despite spending a lot of time on cleanup. I get one ATG chance at my lower neck, and if I don’t get it, I have to live with it. Today was close, but I don’t get to ring the bell.

Nowhere to be today, so I splashed on a lot of the Black Ice aftershave, and my daughter told me I smell like a pedophile.

We are trying to get all the planning finished for her grad party, and it is getting out of hand. We are having it in this old train depot that has been turned into a dance hall, and we have a band for the first three hours, then a PA system rented for the rest. It seems that this is maybe going to be the party to end up at, so we are trying to get a handle on head count and food. We are hovering around three hundred right now, and not finished. All I know is Thank God grampa’s shelling out for half.

It is definitely an efficient plate. To me, it is very smooth, though. At some point, I may get another plate or two, just to see how they compare. All for Science, of course.

After a bit of a diversion, I'm back to the Slim Adjustable. Now, however, I'm spending a few days with my birth quarter razor- a G3 Aristocrat Adjustable. This one has gotten somewhat lost in the shuffle lately. All together, though, everything came together nicely for a wonderful shave.

Guess I don't always pay attention to the fine details - This is a mutton tallow soap! I did have an opportunity to test a small sample of MWF but it's been a while back so I can't compare. Easy loading with Jason's handiwork and labor of love fitted with a synth knot. In keeping with my extended Decadent December Policy I stirred up a lather, scraped the knot free, and loaded some more product. First application had that thick white clown paint effect so I added more water to the mix. Still great coverage, but less opaque. Took my three passes with the old Gillette and a 3rd use blade. No preshave soap was applied so this was all Stirling; very nice lemony scent from both the Haitian Vetiver & lemongrass. Great glide and very good residual slickness. Not to dis the beef tallows, but mutton is better. Rinsing equipment while the alum worked I could feel a little burning irritation on my lower neck. It resided when I washed off the alum and applied high octane Pinaud. Very nice face feel from the soap. Hydrated & smooth.

I appreciate the sentiments expressed by The Honorable Member from Canada. Due to Local Concerns, I was not participating in the Comparative Study on this particular occasion. The dual products testing procedure does qualify as a Scientific Endeavor worthy of future perusal. Considering that this precinct has already invested in the Proraso capital outlay Testing is a foregone conclusion. The results of said Test are still to be determined. No disrespect to the fine gentleman John @Screwtape from Northern Reaches.


My Focus this month was to try several Stirling samples that found their way to my den. After reading a couple days ago all about sheep and the men who love them I though I'd give Port Au Prince a test. Didn't want to skew the results by introducing an added variable of glycerin preshave soap. I'm also looking forward to trying a new-to-me vintage Gillette. A user grade Slim will find it's way to my face before the month's over. Flibbertigibbet much?

Thanks, Jim. It’s actually gonna be a blast. Lotta work, but as a few of you know, both of my kids are super, over the top into music, and my wife and I have been super supportive of that. With Danie being my youngest and last, the local community has stepped up and made the whole thing possible. Daddy is only paying pennies on the dollar to have a really crazy event put on, and in her name. Some incredible musicians who our kids have studied under, played for, even baby sat for, etc., are making it all happen. But as I said it is starting to snowball, and now I’m catering a BBQ for 300. Do I laugh or cry?

Hahahaha. Thanks for the assist. Im not computer savy enough to do that and here at home she hid all the scissors from me until May is over. As if id try shaving with scissors. Hedge clippers maybe but never scissors.

I guess you snag enough ribs for yourself and enjoy the music. Then cry later...

(Sigh...). There's always that one guy who insists on splitting the difference...

Anyone struggling to learn the art of using zero pressure when shaving with a DE razor? C’mon on over, and I’ll give you some easy steps to guide you on your way.


Step one: Borrow a shavette razor from a friend.

Step two: Use the shavette two days in a row, making sure to use improper angle - and irritate the livin’ crap out of your neck area. Add a few small cuts thrown in for extra measure, and bonus points.

Step three: Go several days without shaving. Use lots of witch hazel and Bump Stopper 2 to calm the inflamed areas down a bit.

Step four: Pull out your DE razor and get to work. I can promise that you’ll use the lightest touch that you’ve ever used with a razor. Trust.

Step five: Admire your shave, and smile seeing that the DE shave didn’t make matters worse. Resume the witch hazel and Bump Stopper 2 treatments to the still inflamed (although much less by now) areas .


Sadly, this was a true story. And, for the record, I don’t actually endorse this method.

Anywho…I’ve FINALLY caught up reading through this very active thread! It took several days, in chunks, but I’ve done it. Even though I haven’t been active, I’ve enjoyed reading through all the posts, and seeing all the beautiful photos! Now I think it’s time for a nap.

Running a company, there are more days than you can imagine where my job is the worst and most stressful one in the company. and it’s not even close. Thankfully, today is not one of them. Sounds like a terrific opportunity to sit at an event and appreciate all the people who feel they want to be part of celebrating your daughter's achievement. It is pretty awesome that many people are coming, she must be an amazing young woman.

That's a tough way to learn a lesson, Bruce. I hope the shavette goes better for you. All I can say is it takes repetition and practice to get the angles correct.
