I tip my hat to you and everyone else for making the effort! I'm still working on my consistency with "mild but efficient " DE's.

Thanks. Bit off more than I could chew. I'm sure that stupidity will creep back in sooner or later. When that time comes, I think I'd do best to try a straight (of which I have eight - all restoration projects for "sometime").

We’ve had a great time this week in the desert. I’m sure she will enjoy the area over the next couple of years. I know I’m looking forward to visiting.

Back home now after a weekend across the border. This was my hotel shave early this morning. Ended up loading a Derby as it appeared to be the only blade left in my travel kit. Worked fine. Went with a balm -even though I packed a splash- to help me with the 40mph winds this weekend in Montana. Did the Gentleman go with the Proraso? Probably not, but still awesome.
Looking forward to a Monday morning shave back in my own home.

As one who sometimes uses a pre-shave soap I can say it isn't a necessity. I like the little menthol kick it gives and it does seem to add a touch of slickness. I have enjoyed using it with Arko this month, partly because the menthol keeps the Arko from becoming boring as it can with me sometimes. I totally agree with you. If you like a pre-shave product then by all means use it. If you don't, or feel it's a frivolous expense then that's fine too. It's like the great blade debate as well. Yep, I have my favorites and others have other favorites. But you know what really makes the shave successful? That little thing called Technique! That's where the debate ends and the proof begins.

And, of course, Voskhod. Always Voskhod. :innocent

In my experience the stupidity always does. Memories fade, confidence grows and before you know it stupidity rears it's head.

    Arko Adjustable April!!

    April 22

    Razor - Soviet Consul (9)
    Blade - voskhod-teflon-coated.jpg (1)
    Soap - Arko
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Post - Alum

I decided I couldn't switch from Arko Adjustable in April until I had one final run with the Soviet Consul. A Russian razor definitely deserves a Russian blade, so the Voskhod it is. I let the Wolf beat up the Arko for a very fine load and face lather and went to work. The Consul is, of course, wide open on setting 9, which is "me" on steroids with this razor. Definitely more aggressive than the Gillette it copied. The feel and handling is very much similar to the Slim, but the extra gap makes it more interesting for sure.

Two passes and a bit of neck touch up and the baby is in the room, fed, swaddled, and put to bed. Very fine result with no blood and alum only mildly hot. Very nice shave indeed.

Hope your weeks gets off to a good start tomorrow!

An ok shave with the B plate. Mostly BBS. Over shaved the neck, so the alum sung a little. Had a couple nicks under the chin, which the styptic pencil took care of, but not with out inflicting a fair amount of irritation. B plate worked really well, every where but under the chin. I like the Palmolive Shave Stick, the shave cream on the other hand, I just can't seem to get to work for me. Going to try the GSB with the C plate tomorrow. Have a great Monday gentlemen.

That's Aristocrat certainly qualifies as shiny, particularly with that case! I think Gillettes lost a little zing in their presentation when the company abandoned the chromed storage cases in favour of clear plastic...

Great travel kit! Glad you enjoyed yourself and are back home safely.

You always seem to get a good shave out of that Russian Consul. How common are they? Were a lot made or do they seem to be more something that was in limited numbers for the upper echelon only?
