A fitting end to April Razor - Razorock Game Changer Blade - Astra Superior Platinum Brush - Simpsons Chubby 2 Super Badger Pre-shave oil - Henri et Victoria - Duc De Santal Shave soap - Henri et Victoria Cognac and Cuban Cigars Osma Alum Block After Shave - Prohibition Style Accoutrements - Bourbon Barrel Another great shave with the Game Changer. With the tips I've learned this month and the razor, I barely felt the alum block after. As an aside, you really should try the Henri et Victoria products. They are incredible. With that being said, bring on May and burn-free shaves! Cheers Montie
Congrats my friend, you have built a solid foundation of skills to continue to refine and enjoy. I too am grateful for the help from many on a good start of my journey not too far back.
April 30th Short-handled Black Beauty w Astra (1) TGN Finest Fan/ Maple Arko Thayers TFS Mastro Miche AS Got back home last night and attempted to catch up on the thread a bit. Happy to have a shave back home this morning, and ended Arko & Adjustable April with Arko and an Adjustable. Nice, routine 2 pass shave. This past month I mainly used my two birth year Super Adjustables, one long handled and one short. Both give me good shaves. I like them both mainly set on 7 and don’t really adjust them that much, I suppose. The weighting feels different with each, but the shaves feel very similar. If I had to pick one, I guess I’d reach for the SA-84 first. I used Arko for the first week of shaves and then started rotating through my usual soaps. I’m just ‘ok’ with Arko. Decent performance with a scent that hasn’t really grown on me at at. I enjoyed following along this month with some of the successes of the newer folks. Still haven’t figured out exactly what I’m doing for MAYhem yet, but I’m pretty sure it will involve my pain stick in some form. Have a great day all!
I'm sure had I not been invited here, I would be covering my wounds with styptic stick and wondering why my neck is always on fire lol. Cheers my friend
Decided to go with the Fatboy today instead of the Slim, which is my daily driver. I enjoyed the extra heft and wondered why I don't shave with it more often. B&M Jacinthe provided today's aromatherapy. Off the puck, this is a fantastic, spring, fresh, floral smelling soap. When lathered a note of bubblegum seems to emerge, which I found surprising and weird, to say the least. May need to go a few rounds with this one before I form a conclusion. Bubble gum or not, I am now smooth and refreshed! Hard to beat that.
Monday morning April 30 - Adjustable Arko Supply Co V.2 SE injector on plate #2 / Personna ( 16) JR #267 birdseye maple and boar brush Arko Aum and Osage Rub Okay, the trudge to the bathroom produced a good, refreshing shave. The Arko stick rubbed over my face turned into two passes of good lather at the bristles of the Jayaruh boar brush. The injector cleaned everything off. I usually pair Arko with Lucky Tiger or Florida Water but grabbed the Osage Rub today out of habit. Regardless, it gave an excellent finish to the shave. This morning is a dull, rainy, grey Monday. I just finished an all-weekend shift of non-stop phone calls from drunken idiots arrested for drunken idiocy and now wanting advice, usually while still drunk... I am shaved and refreshed and going to bed. Maybe the sun will be shining when I get up... During April, I tried out and finished off several samples. I then settled in to use up my tub of Vitos Eucalyptus shaving cream while breaking in my new boar brushes and perfecting my use of my Supply Co V.2 SE injector. That has lasted the second half of April. I expect to continue with that program throughout May.
A fresh stick of Arko? Have you given up on the Palmolive Challenge? Trying to improve an Arko lather? Better luck improving the Arko scent.... Another awesome ‘Rick pic’ and informative write-up. A couple really cool pics of some awesome set-ups, Keith. Beautiful Shepard, Patrick. Very loyal and intelligent dogs in my experience. Another fantastic collage, Clint. I remember you saying that you were putting a tuxedo in the 30DC, but I can’t remember you saying why you were ditching the Omega? You probably explained it already, but I missed it, sorry. I think that is the perfect description of Arko, Perry- ‘It works and the lather exploded today. It’s not as slick as many other soaps I have but Arko certainly works just fine’ sums it up super well.
Thanks, Jason! I referred to Arko earlier this month as "serviceable" soap, another description you agreed with. And all of that is true - it's not that slick to me but it gets the job done. We can all agree that it's one of the best deals in wet shaving - basically $1 for a stick that will provide tons of shaves.
Lovely warm photo Jason. Great recap of the month. Thank you Jason. I had the Tuxedo in one of the prototype brass handles. The knot really did not fit well since the opening was a touch to small. When I was working on Mark's brush I decided to switch the knots between the two handles. So the brass handle got the Omega and the 30 DC LE got the Tuxedo.
