Blue Tips are .023, the same as the 1954-1968 Super Speeds as a group. The late '40s SS's are .025, the same as the Aristocrat. Red Tips are .029. There is some extra gap in them but they are also heavier which adds to the effect. There was certainly ( I believe) some marketing involved. Obviously if a Blue Tip and a, say, 1959 Flare Tip are gapped the same you'd expect a similar shave. I haven't looked it up but I think the Blue Tip is a lighter razor than the Flare. Don't quote me on that until we have the actual data, but I believe that's a fact.

All of the advertising, especially the baseball ads, speak of the red tip as being a "heavy" razor, as has already been stated. So while the gap is slightly higher, Gillette was more interested in the weight factor, or so it seems. They also mention angle and exposure too at one point.

I don't know.....filing down the corners to lessen the risk......while certainly sane and less "out there".....I almost feel cheated. I know, easy to say when it isn't my face on the line.

So for my second shave of Mayhem, I went with a second easy and no thrill shave. Schick injector, Envy White badger in a custom handle, classic aftershave with stupid amounts of menthol added, and the Dirty Deeds soap. This was one of the first soaps I used in wetshaving, and it’s kind of nostalgic for me. Love the scent, not so sold on the performance. I will say I got the best lather I have ever gotten from it today. Gave away a bunch of these pucks last year, and based on the amount I have used, this is going to last me 10 years. Two and a half passes, and a DFS shave today.

Not entirely shave related, but somewhat. I got a new tattoo last Friday. It’s about 10 by 6 inches on the back of my calf.

My youngest daughter's name is Juliet, and the imagery for this is from Romeo's speech when he first sees Juliet. So after I shaved today, I went to put lotion on it to help it heal. Want to guess which idiot forgot to make sure all the alcohol and menthol from his aftershave was completely rinsed off his hand before rubbing the still healing tattoo? Not as bad as when I accidentally mentholated the boys, but for sure on my list of things not to do again.

I bet the menthol didn't feel to good at all. Great looking tattoo.

It's always below the belt for you and menthol. I'm almost thinking fetish.

    Like your shave bowl!

Also a great tattoo, especially like the idea of using Shakespearean imagery to reference your daughter.

Not such a cool move with the aftershave though. I'm thinking there should be some sort of Shavey nomination in there. Maybe something like "Most original use of aftershave as an instrument of torture"???

I did the whole corners thing with a Gem blade when I first started using a 1912 SE. I didn't check the already installed blade before starting a shave. The springloaded cap had slipped somehow and one corner of the blade slid past the bladestop to project out past the safety guard. Before I noticed, I had put two parallel gouges down my left cheek. I was worried I was going to wind up with a "Heidelberg duelling scar".

So yeah, I filed the corners this time. So sue me, I'm a coward...;)

The shave bowl was made by Lobster Rose Pottery. She is a friend of mine, and on Facebook. She doesn't believe me when I tell her there may be a market for these, I would love to prove her wrong. Its awesome to have a lather bowl that is so easy to hold in the hand, and that looks good. I have a large tattoo on the back of my other leg for my oldest daughter. They were done by the same artist, and he made sure they complement each other as well.

Well, fortunately for you, the entire Cartel legal team (that's Boris and Yuri) is tied up with motions from the great Cookie Rebellion. Given the amount of frivolous filings that they have been buried in, and the difficulty in translating legalese when blackout drunk from vodka, by the time they get free, the statute of limitations on cowardly yet very sane shaving will have expired.

My oldest daughter is named Laurel. She was born on Dia de los Muertos. It has sunflowers for eyes for Kansas, and is sitting on a wreath of laurel leaves.
