I had a coworker ask me about soaps today. He told me that he just received a new Merkur 34, cheapie brush and a tub of WSP Sandalwood which he doesn’t like the smell of. I made a quick trip home and grabbed 18 Stirling soaps, a Merkur, and a tuck of Astras. I let him sniff and sort soaps until he had a pile of favorites to photograph. Then I showed him how to load his 34 and explained how to ride the cap and why you want to. I gave him the Astras so he’d maximize his chances for success. I can’t wait for Monday’s report!
The only thing better than pickled fish and a beer in the summer, is pickled fish and a shot of brandy in the winter. You eat one in the boat, and the other in the fish house.
Wow just used this for the First time. Love the sent and of course the performance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Super cool move, with your coworker. A 34C, Astra blades and Stirling soap will set him up for success in the hardware dept.
I have been a Lime guy for as long as I can remember. Maybe back into the late eighties, early nineties with Old Spice Lime. The Stirling is just so “briskly fresh”, it is my all time favorite. I am on my second tub now.
I'll have to put it my list. Don't imagine it's something I'd find at the corner convenience store though.
I’m loving my Coconut Lime, and MITA. I’m pretty sure I’d love straight Lime too. If my collection wasn’t already a little carried away, I’d buy Lime. Maybe in a year or two.
I have a couple of other lime soaps to kill off first. Unless they do a glacial version, then I'd have to pounce on it. I know glacial MITA has been done. But straight lime would be fantastic.
Agreed. Glacial Lime would have me ordering for sure. I remember reading about a discontinued menthol Lime/Lemon that would have me with a credit card in hand too.
Tonight’s shave was Iced Pineapple. Applied with a Green Ray and removed with the delicate touch of a 37c. It was my first run with both the soap and the razor. No surprises with Sterling menthol soap...............fantastic as always. The 37c is great as well. Lighter and easier to control than the California Framer (39C), and provides an utterly smooth and efficient shave. And with a basic Astra no less.
You can find decent pickled herring in any good grocery, at least in the Midwest. Maybe outside of there it becomes more specialty. Elf brand, I would consider a minimum quality standard. Pickled fish is 100% a texture thing. It isn’t fishy anymore, cause it’s pickled, and hopefully with a TON of onions. When we make it, we salt brine it before the pickling liquid ever hits it. It firms it up, and makes it so much more palate-able. The store bought stuff isn’t, and it’s “mushy/slimy“ (for lack of a better term) If you like that raw oyster, squeak and slide party on the back of your tongue type thing, than it’s great.
Lemony Orange, and it is unbelievable. I might perhaps have the only tub still in existence. We could easily get it made for us if we could put together enough pledged interest. It is the right time of year to hit Rod up. I think we would need to speak for a batch tho. I can start a sign up again if there is some interest.
I almost forgot how fantastic Gin+Tonic on the Rocks is - what a great shave I had with it this morning!
From what I'm reading some are brined, so I'll have to see if any mention it on the label. I don't think I would like the slimy version, unless I was somwhat pickled myself.
