If I use a soap on my dog, it will likely be the original Latha. Good lather, but not my favorite scent. It would be a slight improvement to his scent, though.

Brush size and density. On a 24, at least for me, that 2.5 grams will go three passes plus cleanup, and still rinse some soap away. Take a 28 mm Shavemac, and 5 grams is nothing. 31 mm Kent, and that 7 grams is totally achievable.

The shaves WERE more enjoyable because I didn't have to shim the blades to get them to be manageable and there was no blood in the lather. (Last time I used the 1914 unshimmed I had somewhere between five and ten weepers and needed the styptic pencil for some of them). But if I am going to use a Gem-style SE, I think it's going to be either a 1912 or my Dammy.

So does Uncle Pickled. It’s what he got started on too. Or Colgate. Not sure which. Both were around.

On another note, Uncle Fuzzy kind of sounds like the guy driving the panel van with no windows and dropping candy behind him, and Uncle Pickled sounds like that uncle at Thanksgiving whose always smashed by 2:00 P.M., and you’re living on puns and needles worried he’s gonna insult one of the nephew’s new wives, or pee on the rug or something.

Oh well, if it's Latha, the Albanians and Bulgarians withdraw from the protest. The East Germans of course will stick with it because, well, they're East Germans and still holding a grudge over that whole Reunification of Germany deal...

I have been super busy, but playing along in the spirit of Mayhem. First shave:

    -Shavecraft El Jefe
    -Stirling Black and White
    -Speick Cream
    -Stirling Gin and Tonic

The El Jefe was a disastrous rollout of a razor that had quality control managed by Sargeant Schultz. Out of about twenty handles, of varying degrees of quality, I’ve only found two that will actually thread on tightly. The blade posts are so sloppily turned that you can darn near make this razor a SEvette or hide the blade like a turtles head. When Ikon starts automatically crediting refunds into PayPal accounts, you know it’s bad. Especially if you know Ikon. That said, with a little aligning effort it is a fantastic shaving razor. Tonight’s hotel shave was flawless.

    ——————————————————————————————

    -Feather SS
    -Stirling Black and White
    -Jeeves Bay Rum
    -Stirling Gin and Tonic

While I still find the SS to be a more difficult razor to master than its counterparts, I have gotten my technique to a point where shaving with it is almost second nature. Few bloodless DFS’s, and I have found a new favorite traveler.

So I went into full Mayhem today. DeskShaver 1.0 didn’t even make it into a first pass, before I added the second blade, for visibility reasons. Well the first blade, which was already Super Glued to the pen was centered. This left an insanely high shaving angle if you tried to use it from the pen side. So I glued another the other way, and left the exposure angle as long as possible.

Let’s just say it mostly worked. I finished an actually pretty good N to S pass that would have left me SAS, and damn near made it back up the hill S to N when the glue gave out, a blade corner caught a bit when the blade shifted in the clip, and I gave myself a little sting on my jaw that I used a little styptic on. Overall razor success: 4.75. Fun factor 7.

Somebody must have forced you to wear bloomers when you were a kid. That's the only explanation I can think of.
Is that it? Is this you?

Awesome pen razor!!! That is why I used a double edge blade on the stivette...

Check yourself. Well, check around. I recall a conversation that suggested the later Yaqi brushes had lower quality knots than the earlier Stirling brushes.

I've done both scrimp and splurge. I'd prefer to rinse some out of the lather bowl or brush than to wish I'd made a better lather.

You have a particular set of skills at making lather. Tell me how you do it?

I should have. In my original daydream, I had an idea that I could just snap a Gem into the clip and just shave with it. So that morphed into Super Glue, one more blade, then the aborted project I attempted.

I actually have pictures, and I will find them, of my grampa, maybe two years old, (back in the early 20’s) wearing these ridiculous looking bloomer pants, and riding “his” mule, or feeding chickens. Looks like clothes Olive Oyl would wear.

I have a whole biography of him that was done by my mother. Pics and family history, from the 20’s to the 80’s.

Had a lazy weekend shave today. Bowl-lathered a very nice Jeeves lather and had a relatively uneventful first pass with the pain stick. I say ‘relatively’ uneventful as I did nick myself a couple of times, but not too badly. I avoided the scab from yesterday all together. Finished off with the MonoBilt again.
    Have a great weekend all!
