A change of hardware for the new week. I will be using the Classic Cobra with a Feather Pro AC blade for the week while alternating between the RV Briar and Rubberset 400 brushes. Before getting a Thäter 3 band brush this RV with a Shavemac Finest knot was my softest and most luxurious brush. It still pampers during face lathering. With a rich slick lather, I went with a traditional 3 pass shave. Buffing along my neck and jawline caught the baby with easy. The Cobra aka"Snake" delivers a wonderfully smooth and close shave when I do my part. I hope everyone has a great Sunday.

    Gem MMOC / Gem PTFE ( 4)
JR #267 birdseye maple and boar brush
    Vitos Eucalyptus shaving cream
    Alum and Osage Rub

Continuing my MAYhem Focus on revisiting razors that I found uncomfortably aggressive in the past, today saw the Gem PTFE blade moved into the Gem open comb Micromatic. This razor generally has a reputation as a smooth shaver that will bite in an instant if the user takes his eyes off it. My previous experience was that it would bite me even if I didn't take my attention off it.

Today's result: no bites, no blood, no errors. Two and a half passes to a high-grade DFS. The alum was a bit warm on my upper lip, which surprised me, but otherwise quiet. Then a great cool finish with the Osage Rub.

And now that I know I could shave every day with the MMOC if I had to, I will leave that to @PanChango and stuff this razor back in the Tradesies Box...

One thing I have noticed is that I am using larger amounts of the Osage Rub and enjoying the chill. Am I in danger of joining the Mentholheads here?

    Blade: Astra SP (2)
    Brush: SOC boar
    Soap: PAA Club Guy
    Thayers Lavender
    AS: Pinaud Clubman

    Good morning gentlemen!

An excellent shave on this beautiful morning. The Astra really shines in the Blackbird. Another close comfortable shave. I got the Blackbird for myself for Christmas. The first shave with it was horrible, now getting great results. I hope everyone just starting with a safety razor doesn't get discouraged and keeps at working on their technique. Great shaves are in their future!

    Have a wonderful Sunday friends!

Great report John. The MMOC looks to be in really good shape. I love menthol so I might need to investigate Osage.

Great set up today, Keith. That razor is a lethal looking piece of steel!
    Beautiful picture, Clint.
I learned a lot from your video, Fuzzy. Your neck strokes with the pain stick are very, very short buffing type strokes. I will try a little shorter stroke as well. Secondly, I learned you love DE razors... I heard you say it just past the 4 minute mark.;)
Sounds like you’re now getting competent shaves with whatever you pick up, John. I find my tolerance for menthol going up all the time as well, haven’t tried the Osage Rub yet though.
Another great pic, Jim. It sounds like you’ve got that Blackbird dialed in now!

Great photo and report! Wonderful to hear that you have managed to move your Blackbird from the "horrible razor" to the "excellent shaver" category in about four months. You now have years of superb shaves in your future.

    Screwtape A Shaving Butterfly

Thanks, gentlemen! I have been surprised at the good drama-free shaves I have gotten from these three Gem-type razors this past week after my previous bloody experiences with them. I think trying out the shavette and the straight razor had some unexpected benefits for me elsewhere.

When I first tried Osage Rub, I found a tiny amount of it rubbed gingerly on my face was almost stronger than I could bear. Now I pour out a small palmful of it, splash it on, and enjoy it. If you like menthol, you will probably enjoy Osage Rub.

I would echo both of Jason's points here, Fuzzy -- first the video is a great teaching video on great technique with the pain stick / shavette. I learned a lot for the next time I decide to pick up a shavette again.

Second, I also heard your confession of your closet love for DE razors... Will you have to walk the Walk of Shame at TOST for that today? :)
