    wchnu Duck Season!

Outstanding. But I had a craving for hotdogs....
    I was being nice.
It was fun. I thought about a cart shave too. But..meh probably not.

If you can but do not want to it's cool. I scream at folks who claim the SE will not give the good shaves. If that beautiful Dammy needs a home holla at the fuzzy one....

    Vintage you say??

I hope young Master Logan gets a clean bill of health from the Doctor.

I am aware. Most amatures do.:prrr:

    Better to ask forgiveness...........

As most of you know, I've had an incredibly positive experience with my $1 Pacific razor. This one, however, has received largely negative reviews. I was operating under the suspicion that this is the same razor repackaged under a different brand name. So I had to try it for myself. I picked a brush and soap that I know well and went to do my own test.

This soap needs more love than it gets. Paired up with my 30DC brush, it whipped up a great lather.

While I cannot see any difference between the Assurance and the Pacific visually, the opening mechanism was a lot looser on the Assurance, and the doors took a couple of attempts to align. The Assurance blade didn't wow me, but it wasn't garbage either. Actually, it was serviceable and I ended up with a high quality shave. Finished off with some TSD Barber Shoppe aftershave and a smooth face.[IMG]

    Razor - Gem Junior
    Blade - Treet Super Single Edge.jpg (2)
    Soap - Island Hopper
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Post- Alum

Well that was interesting. Not too many razors confuse me but the Gem Junior had me for a couple of minutes. Finally went to You Tube to look up a video on loading this razor. It's not difficult, just have to see it once. So, all loaded up and ready with a Treet Super blade. Chose the Wolf and Island Hopper for the lather. As this is the second razor Fuzzy @wchnu loaned me to try I wanted to give it a good shot.

First pass was quite nice, especially the audible feedback. I'm loving the sound of these old SE razors on my face. You can almost shave with your eyes closed. When the sound goes away you're smooth. First pass was quite smooth, noisy, just plain fun. The Gem Junior seems well balanced. They look so funny with that big lather catcher area but when you're on angle they feel totally natural in the hand.

Second pass was a bit of a problem as the Wolf ran out of lather. Yep, it didn't load like I thought it did. So I grabbed a Stirling synthetic and fixed that problem. Plenty of lather in about 30 seconds and the XTG pass was quite nice as well, if a bit tricky on the neck. No blood but the finish is a low DFS. A couple of areas I was too light on in trying not to add pressure. But still, a very nice shave with a very cool razor that is over 100 years old. That's just cool in itself.

Two more shaves before being on hiatus starting Thursday. I think tomorrow night I'll go back to the Kampfe Star, then Wednesday night will be another Russian featured shave. Plus my head shave on Wednesday with a pain stick. Thursday through Saturday I'll be somewhere in Central MO running around in a kilt in the middle of the woods. Sunday night will be a pain stick face shave to clear the stubble and next Monday - well we'll see. Hope this week started great for you!

Yeaaaa. I should have mentioned that one. That partictular razor has it's own how to load video. On youtube at Gem Cutlery. Dave gifted it to me before he dissapeared. Glad it worked for you. As it was a gift from the founder of The Original Safety it is a favorite of mine.

Mayo made you think of hotdogs? I could see mayo making you crave peanut butter, but unless you spend a lot of time in New Mexico, hotdogs don't jump to mind.

Sounds like you are knocking it out of the park everytime with that Blackbird now Jim. Great pic as well.
4 passes with a 5 bladed Fusion? MAYhem indeed, Keith...
Well, if you had to bend the doors into alignment but it still worked ok, and the ‘Assured’ blades cut facial hair, it was as good as you could have expected I suppose, Chris.
Are they as much of a copy of a Flare Tip as they look?
Those are some of the coolest looking razors of all time, Neal. The detail and casting that went into them is definitely from another time.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to put a blade in, only to have it fall out several times before finally searching for the answer. Once it's loaded it shaves like a dream.
