    SharptoothC I bite..........

It wants to be a copy of a flare tip. Held side by side the quality differences are glaring. And I find the Flare Tip to be a milder razor than either the Pacific or Assurance.

So I didn't think the Assurance blade was that great in the Assurance razor. Passable, usable but not great. So I decided to try it in my favorite razor and see if it fared any better. Nope. Kinda tuggy, just not as sharp as I like. It removed hair so it did the job but it just wasn't enjoyable.

So for pass #2 I decided to try a good blade in the Assurance razor. I popped in a Perma Sharp Super and got a great second pass. So: the Pacific and the Assurance razors are both usable. The blades are functional but not great. For $1 each, they make good travel sets.

And no, I did not shave with Old Spice deodorant. I've found that the Old Spice deodorant holders fit my Arko sticks very nicely.[IMG]

I have to admit, I am pulling for it to stay. It is one of my favorite razors.

    Razor: Blackbird OC
    Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum
    Brush: SOC boar
    Soap: PAA Gondolier
    Lucky Tiger face tonic
    AS: Fine Platinum

Good evening gentlemen! Some fine looking shaves today!

My alphabetical march through my blades has taken me to the Bic Chrome Platinum. It was ok. Not as smooth as the Astra. It was tuggy on my chin and jaw atg. If the Astra hadn't paired so well with the Bird I would have thought more highly of the Bic.

The PAA Gondolier whipped up a great lather! I find the PAA soaps take more water than the CK soaps to get to the consistency I like.

    Have a great night![IMG]

    MAYhem, or not.

    Proraso Green PS soap
    Stirling Glastonbury SS
    B-400 WD HMB brush
    Suribachi & cool water
    Fatip Piccolo & Kai (3rd)
    Alum, Pinaud Lime Sec
SOTD 05082018 Proraso Green PS, Pinaud Lime Sec.gif Not a MAYhemmy shave here, yet. Just getting reacquainted with my Piccolo. I'm enjoying the preshave soap. If not for any additional slickness it's a great shot of menthol. Used a Whipped Dog High Mountain badger for my attempt at lather. Soused the soap to facilitate loading but it just wouldn't pick it up like a synth or boar knot. Couple dribbles of water on the knot, agitation in the bowl gifted me with airy runny almost lather. It was a long day mowing in the orchard; sunshine, sweat, bugs. So I just accepted the sub par and shaved on through. Three passes, no extra clean up, a decent result anyways. The alum was quiet enough except for the 100mm long scratch (sounds better than 4 inches) from the corner of my mouth to lower jaw. I was zooming along on the lawn tractor and got close to a satsuma tree with some past winter freeze damage. Live branches flex, this one tried to fish hook me. Superficial damage so I lathered, shaved, alumed, and ASed right over it. Time for a pipe on the porch & listen to the crickets. And sirens. And some guy on a loud 4 wheeler.
    Good Shaves Y'all!

Beautiful, Clint. Do you find that Feather Pros are a little less aggressive in a safety razor as opposed to a Shavette? IE- do they feel just as sharp in the Cobra?
The Aristocrat Jr is a nice looking shaver, no doubt, especially in another ‘Jim’s Effect’ shot.
Great looking combo, Perry. I have pulled the Jeeves splash for tomorrow as well. I’ll send you some First Canadian Maximo Gomez, it is an awesome soap and a good match to that splash.
What is in the tradesies box, John?:innocent
Another great looking combo, Keith. Is the Dragonfly a new scent? I haven’t heard of that one from Zoologist.
The Perma Sharp is a great blade in any razor, imho! Cool pic of a great old razor, Chris.
You’ve amassed quite a collection of soaps, Jim!
Ouch, sorry to hear about the branch.
You must have gotten a bum steer, as I find my WD HMB whips up Stirling soaps very, very well.

Thank you, Jim. That’s why I keep all these old things around, I guess.
    Thank you, Clint.
FWIW, I also have realized that this is a soap I do much better with face-lathering rather than taking it to the bowl. Others are the reverse, and others it doesn’t seem to matter with.
    Thank you, Jim.

    Razor - Kampfe Star
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
Soap - Oleo Soapworks El Caballero
    Brush - 30DC LE
    Post- Alum

Back to the Kampfe Star. Switched the Treet Super back to it tonight for its third shave. Decided to use the El Caballero with the 30DC brush. Lather was no problem at all. Slick, cushy, instant. The Kampfe is a very interesting looking razor when it's loaded. That blade just sticks out and you know it's headed your way. Again, like the Gem Junior, the weight of the head of this thing is perfect once you're on angle. No added pressure, just let the razor do the work. Noisy, effective, FUN and provides a great shave.

Three full passes and the alum is barely warm. A couple of hot spots where I got a little heavy on the ATG, but other than that a very fine and bloodless shave. And the Treet blade? It will go a few more with no problems. Gotta love a shave like this.

Once you get down to the build of a Pacific or Assurance I'm not sure you can really get any "worse". The Pacific was certainly serviceable for me, as are the two or three cheap Chinese TTO's I ordered for about two bucks a piece. They aren't going to provide luxury, but they can all produce a decent shave for those who know how to handle them. You know, that whole Technique thing again.

About 20 years ago I spent a year working in a window plant. I started as a glazer on the "double hung line". Of course, double hung in window terminology refers to windows where both sashes operate so you can open the top or bottom, or both sides in a horizontal window. So, when people would ask which line we worked on we'd always, of course, say we were double hung.

Even better? There was a position on the line called the "hanger". He had the toughest and heaviest job. Taking all of the frames after the glazers put the glass in, and installing all of the sashes after glazing. I was asked to take on that job after a couple of months. It was a heavy lifting job but offered some extra freedom and responsibility that made it worth it. Besides....when people asked who I was on the line? Well of course.....the Double Hung Hanger. Word.
