Thursday May 10 - trying razors

Schick H1 "Hussy" / vintage Schick Super Chromium ( 1 )
Simpsons CH2 Synthetic brush
Vitos Eucalyptus shaving cream
Alum and Soapy Bathman Cup of Joe menthol balm

Today I moved on from the Gem-style razors to an injector from my collection that I had never used before. My Hussy didn't come with a case or packaging but did have the instruction booklet with it. It has some age discoloration on the plastic but otherwise shows few signs of use.

The handle shape of the Hussy is completely different from any other injector and the head shape is different from the other Schicks too. However, I found the shaving angle was easy to find using "ride the cap". I simply started with the razor perpendicular to my face, then angled down until I felt and heard the blade touching skin and mowing whiskers. After that, the angle was very easy to keep. The razor was also easy to grasp, and I eventually settled on a grip much like the one I had used for Paintscraper 1.0.

The Hussy turned out to be a very mild injector. Unless you slide the razor and blade directly sideways against your skin, I am not sure it's even possible to nick yourself with this one. The vintage Schick blade was smooth and very sharp.

My normal two and a half passes brought me a BBS without any cuts, nicks, weepers or irritation. The alum was totally silent.

For a change, I used my Soap Destroyer brush with the Vitos cream today, and it did a splendid job of face lathering. For a change, I also ditched the Osage Rub in favour of my mentholated version of the Cup of Joe balm. And now, clean, refreshed, with a fully hydrated and soft face that feels like it just came through a blizzard, I am going to bed...

Great report, John! I love the 'Hussy' razor. Don't own one, unfortunately, as the one I used was from a pass-around. But I'll own one someday. It's a cool razor.

 

I doubt she was the first to say that.

Davidoff Cool Water is very similar and a fraction of the price. Razorock Tight Buns is similar but lacks the projection and longevity of GIT or Cool Water.

Sorry. This is wedge SE blades. I can use a open blade just fine. But enjoy safety razors to much to swap over completely.
