Jim @Norcalnewb, I googled that Soapy Science and ended up reading her project thread at The Shave Nook. Impressive to say the least!. It was a six month long hands-on science experiment. After she had finished the first basic experiments in saponifying fats and oils, she did shaving soaps specifically. As far as I can tell from skimming 15 pages of thread, she got between 6 to 10 experienced shavers involved as guinea pigs and tested at least 11 major variants of soap on them, with several minor versions of each as she tweaked different ingredients. Played with added and subtracting varying proportions of tallow, lanolin, glycerin, half a dozen other oils and several common additives to see what worked best, and then also worked on essential oils for scent. A massive amount of work and probably more detailed experimentation than many artisan makers have done before launching out.

I am on NB'18 and need more soap like a hole in the head, but if she is still going strong at the end of the year, I will pick up a couple tubs from her.

That's a good point-Aqua Velva would knock it off better than TSD Bay Rum(besides, it'll be too warm for the Bay Rum AS). I'll see what I "come up with". But regardless, the Jeeves did pass my test of "Winter Soaps I Can Manage Well Enough In the Summer"(or whatever I called the contest). Course if it's HUMID, the Stoylin Wintergreen would be best.

Is it your understanding, as it is mine, that a gift from a TSD Raffle is safe for NB? Course you "buy" the ticket, but without TSD you don't have the fun of the NB challenge in the first place.

Yep, she put quite a bit of work into it. The results are good so far.

I think the TSD raffles are safe for a NB, Paul. :happy088:

The soap prices are a bit high, but then you do get the extra oz. in the puck(5).

Part of the money goes to charity, too, so that is an added bonus. It is also a pretty hard soap for an Artisan, so it should last a while.

Say, that brings up a good point-I'll bet the Bill(Wm.)Neumann&Co. soaps are hard, as they are costly, as well.

Shaved first this this morning, but no opportunity to post until now. A two pass CJB shave with only one sizeable hiccup. With Gentleman and then Unconditional Surrender, I don’t know how software gets any better than this. Added the alum to the routine today to judge irritation, and it sung quite a bit.
Looking forward to the weekend. Have a great Saturday all!
