    It's been a while!
I've done a little experimentation over the last couple of weeks. I've flitted between the Ming Shi and the 34c - my conclusion is that the Ming Shi has a lot of blade movement (chatter I think the term is?) whereas the 34c is rock solid. I also tried going back to Proraso white from the Palmolive - Proraso is pretty terrible in comparison (in my opinion of course). I have also been working on the skin stretching - this for me is the single biggest thing that is improving the closeness of my shaves. I am working on getting near BBS on two passes just by stretching my skin and taking my time! Astra SP blades are the shizzle!

Very nice looking Red Tip, aka Gillette Heavy. One of my favorite razors, I won a C1 off the bay months ago. Combined with a Rapira or Vokshod it gives the absolute best, irritation free shaves, which always surprises me, because during the shave it feels a little rough, might have to run a few different blades through it for a focus, and see how they shave.

Sorry I've been a bit absent this month gang. My month has essentially been travel sick travel. Got a very nice shave in this morning with some Marlborough and L'Orange Noir. Need to at least break out the shavette a little more to be a part of the theme this month.

Welcome back, Chief! You're right. If you haven't accidentally danced the night away at a rave held in the woods, you need to get your life together.

    Mayhem redux

No time to catch up just a quick post on my second attempt with Gillette's 5 blade razor. This time I tried a little more pressure but still followed all that I have learned in the past 5 years. I did not shave unaltered areas and did my normal 4 passes. At first I thought I did OK on the irritation because alum gave just a little feedback, but by the end of the day I had a couple ingrown hairs and allot of redness. The shave was closer than the first but still not BBS, I rate the closeness an A-.

I am surprised that the shaves were not closer and realize that to get BBS it will require a lot of pressure and a lot of blade buffing. It was tough to get my chin and impossible to go ATG on my upper lip. I can see where it will work for some people but not for me, the ingrown hair problem remains but much less than before I became enlightened.

I have been accused of lurking there, but they fail to produce evidence sufficient to convict.

Thank you Andrew! I confess to being a Collector. I have the set; Blue, Flare, & Red. The Red is for Shaving while the other two are there for the Trifecta.

Thank your Clint. After using the Fatip for days it was a nice change.

    Thank you Jim!

Thank you Scott. For being a non-adjustable DE, it's a good one. I got lucky in that it's pretty, too.

    Razor - Gem Junior
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
    Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Brush - Jayaruh #54
    Post - Alum

I thought I'd stay another day or two on the LC razors Fuzzy @wchnu loaned me. I'm pretty fascinated with how well they work and how awesome it is to see some really old razors doing their thing. I threw a new blade into the Gem Junior and will probably stay with it a couple of days to get a really good feel for it. I have to say (and don't tell Fuzzy) that I could get used to shaving with this razor. His evil plan to convert me to SE's is well thought out. I'll have to watch myself.

I rehydrated what was left of my MWF. It had shrunk to quite a smaller volume since it has sat so long. But, after I let it soak all last night and today it provided its usual excellent lather. Time to reorder another puck as this one is about gone. JR54 brush was perfect and awesome as always.

I'm totally loving the sound these razors make. Quite audible and you know you're making progress. By the end of the XTG pass things are quiet and all is well. No blood, quiet alum, just a few touch ups and an awesome shave is at hand. Great way to end the day. The Gem Junior may make its way into my den on a permanent basis. (Or not - let's keep the Fuzzter confused).

Glad it didn't mangle you too badly. Once you get the blade seated correctly and get used to the grip it's a pretty fun shave. In fact, loading the blade was the scariest part of shaving with it.

I haven't been on much the last few days. I didn't know MAYhem was referring to this guy. The last few days have involved car trouble and learning some new plumbing skills on the fly, so I took a couple of days off from shaving. I had a good bit of white facial hair to work on today.

    GEM MMOC
    Omega Boar
Cold River Soap Works Barbiere Sapone
    Aqua Velva Musk

The ring of death on the CRSW grows ever wider. It will probably be my first soap kill of the year, but it keeps hanging on. The MMOC made short work of my facial hair. That razor is really growing on me.

I cracked open the Aqua Velva Musk for the first time this year, and my wife came in and told me that whatever I had put on she could smell to rooms away though closed doors, and she liked it. Shocked me. Stunned me, even. But I ain't complaining. Any time she likes one of my good old drug store cheapies is a win.[IMG]

I always forget about him until I see a picture. Some of the funniest commercials ever made. You're right about the MMOC. Incredibly effective razor. You just have to keep it on a leash.
