F.W.Engels. "Special". This one had me chomping at the bits to hone. I took me time and restored it, then took it to the stones. Norton 1k, Chinese ? 3K 8K, Welsh Slate Stones 8K 12K 15K, Arkansas Surgical Black Progression stone. The end result was a wickedly sharp edge. Before: After:
I do too. I just shaved with it, and it was fantastic. This is the first FWE I've run across, that it was in my price range.
You're wrong for that. Hmmm, a Scotsman making fun of someone with a tight wallet? Now that's funny, or sad for me.
6/8 King Pelican 27 kind-of French (or maybe Irish) point, simple refresh with tomo on a small karasu. Cheers, Steve
I scored a new esher, so a bit of testing,... Nice stone comparable to my other esher but a bit larger! Works well as a finisher, but for this facharbeit solingen, dulled on glass to grind the rust away ( but not polished yet) it was the only stone required. 10 minutes of honing!
A newly re-scaled 6/8 352 Le Grelot Lotus, honed with a mikawa nagura progression. The bevel was set with a Shapton Glass HR 4k, followed by botan, mejiro, and a leopard spot koma on a hard blue-green Nakayama. The final finisher is a favorite piece of karasu. DuPont 1 mil Kapton tape protected the shiny stuff. Cheers, Steve
Not unless they got 'creative' with the scales, probably a hot attic in the midwest! These are the original scales - they had shrunken so much that it ruined the scale emblem. The steel is in good shape though. Cheers, Steve
Just in from the restore Bench W&B 1-5-10 Chosera then onto a Smashed Slurry finish on my Select Grade Coticule,,, Smoooooooth Hone on Gents !!!
Last night a Gold Dollar test razor was on deck to test a tomonagura (a slurry stone) that a good friend sent me, on a known-good razor finisher. Merci beaucoup mon ami Matthieu ! The tomonagura is killer! Usually the first time I test a stone/tomo etc selected Gold Dollars are my choice both to keep wear off better razors and because they seem to me to be a bit more sensitive to the stone. IDK why, maybe the bevel angle? Anyway, the edge tested very, very, good, silent HHT root-in or -out. Cheers, Steve
Testing a new stone that arrived today, nice hard mizu asagi (water blue) Nakayama with a ring pattern. The razor is a user-grade Kikuboshi FōN I'm fixing up for a local gentleman. Cheers, Steve
Ferd Herberz Palma 93 Skipped the 1k and set the bevel on the Shapton 4k. Then tried out a new stone to me, the Suehiro Deluxe 6k. Pretty thirsty stone, much thirstier than anything else I have used. Will need to get used to the feeling of this one and see if the Mejiro was the right next step. Then turned to the Okudo and used a Mejiro and then the Nakayama tomo. Happy Honing! Tom
Just Honed My Newly Acquired Dubi Duck Solingen 6/8th..Honed on a Naniwa Super Stone Progression & Finished on My Escher Thuri 16 K +..Took a Wicked Edge this Razor..Wasn't NOS this Razor But its Mint with Little Use..It had the Original Hone Job from the Factory I Reckon & Typically Wasn't Properly Bevel Set at the Heel Area.. A Beautiful Razor..My Next Shave.. Billy..
