The Excelia was feisty today, on account of the brand new Feather Pro blade. This razor has two advantages over others. The curved handle allows you to hold it by the end which helps you to see what you are doing when shaving sideburns. The very deep jimps help your grip when you switch hands.
After years of being scared to death of trying a shavette, I picked one up! I got the $10 cheap Magic shavette from Sally Beauty Supply. I snapped a Voskhod in half, loaded the shavette up, flicked a snurdle of TOBS Sandalwood SC into my lather bowl and furiously whipped up an amazing lather, applied said luxury with a 24mm synthetic on a refinished Rubberset handle and then got to shaving. Man.....I've been missing out. Now, I've used a straight off and on for almost 8 years so maybe it was already being able to straight shave without much effort that made it such a great experience, but I felt as if I'd cheated myself all this time. I feel a bit foolish for fearing the shavette I have to admit. I finished it off with a nice refreshing cold water rinse and pat dry with a generous application of Lucky Tiger Vanishing Cream and some Osage Rub. Overall, I got about 90% BBS with very little irritation on my first attempt. I'm diggin' this method already!
Thanks man! I’ve been using it exclusively because it works so well. I wondered if the longer handle was gonna be weird when I got it, but it’s actually much easier to hang on to especially for head shaving.
Same setup today. I chased the baby a little and had a few weepers more than yesterday but the shave is far better. I'm really liking this. May have to pick up a Parker because the Magic is a bit cheap feeling.
