    SharptoothC I bite..........

The first month was easy. The next two were brutal. Now, I have talked myself down so many times, I think I'm actually convinced that my current soap stache - ok, hoard - is sufficient.

    May 22

    Razor - Simplex
    Blade - voskhod-teflon-coated.jpg (1)
    Soap - Stirling Gatlinburg
    Brush - Omega BoS 10066
    Post - Alum, Styptic

When Fuzzy @wchnu sent the Lather Catchers he also included a Simplex razor. An interesting little thing. The head is a plastic base plate with metal cap and the handle appears to actually be an older travel Tech handle. Looks like it could be fun. I decided to give it a run for MAYhem with a Voskhod in it. Stirling Gatlinburg and Omega boar brush for great lather and it shouldn't be a problem.

Shouldn't is a dangerous word. My first clue that I might be in for something other than a quick smooth shave was the alignment of the blade. I had to work on getting the blade evenly gapped on both edges. Looking at it gave me just a bit of pause. Just seemed like the blade was a little overexposed but, hey, I've used far worse. First pass, WTG, was fine. Seemed like the angle was very specific to keep it completely smooth and cutting. I stayed on the cap with maybe just a tiny tilt away and it seemed fine. Went back for the XTG pass and discovered two things. If you give it too much angle it will draw blood. As it did on my right jawline. And, if you set it down wrong the blade can cut. As it did next to my goatee on the right jaw/chin. More blood than I've seen in quite awhile. I did some touch up and called it good.

Alum was warm to hot depending on location. Definitely some irritation from this little thing. I thought I had the pressure off of it but I either didn't, or it just has an aggressive nature for a simple little razor. Styptic was necessary to stop the cut near my goatee and I dabbed the three spots on my jawline just in case.

The finish? It will work for tomorrow. Not as good as I usually get but I've had far worse. This razor could probably be a nice little travel/camping razor with enough work to learn it properly. So I'm not complaining. Just trying for a smidgen of sympathy.

Nahhhh. Use a damp brush and build a paste...then add water by just touching the tips of the brush in to water. No need to beat itto death either. I have videos if you need.

Yea...and you see how it sucked. You wanna bloom something plant a flower. :prrr:

    BULLY!!!

    A Sackett quote?

Ahhh. I have not tried one of those yet. Looked fun though. I think @jmudrick put a longer handle on one.

Perhaps try it with as longer handle Neal. A little better angle control?

Thank you Andrew! Since I gave up having multiple blades of unknown uses, then moving a blade around to multiple razors, I'm enjoying the Focus of five or so shaves per razor or the life of that blade. It's reminding me why I have these particular razors. Might even change my mind about keeping some of them. Time will tell.

Don't let on that you are pondering going minimalist. The enablers are everywhere. I nearly made it there until someone noticed and BAM!!! Soaps started showing up, being suggested, challenges and dares made and there went my attempt.

    Tabac Shave Soap

    Aqua Velva Ice Blue

Evening Gentlemen, some shaves you just get everything right and this was one of those shaves. The Tabac whipped up a nice slick creamy protective lather, I'm starting to put a small dent in the soap. The Platinum Lux seems to just Shine in every razor I try it in, particularly the Rockwell 6c, Gillette Heavy. The wife is working tonight so I took the opportunity to put the healthy splash of Aqua Velva Ice Blue on after a nice DFS+. Have a nice Wednesday, Gentlemen.

Detour week continues, its actually about two things so does have a bit of a focus. It's me testing my technique against the different razors I have. Between my purchases and gifts from family I have more than I ought to!). It's also a test of shave longevity through the day between razors - each with the blade I like best in it
    Razor :Merkur 33C
Blade : Feather (Feathers utterly rock in this little razor)
    Brush: Rocky Mountain
    Soap: Arko
    Balm : Speick
    Aftershave : Farenheit
    upload_2018-5-23_10-35-13.png

Thus far into the experiment I've used three razors on successive days - Merkur Futur, Muhle R41, Merkur 33C
Shaves with each razor have been excellent so my technique ok so far.
Longevity - I shave abut 0630 every morning.
Merkur Futur - 3 pass shave and clean up lasted well to about 5pm, by later evening growth coming through. Post shave alum felt good.
Muhle R41 -3 pass shave and clean up, felt good up to abut 7ish. Post shave alum a bit tingly in places
Merkur 33C - don't know yet :) but feels very, very good post shave , then again the other two did :). Best post shave feeling so far.

I was wondering the same thing. I also bought one of those razors but have, so far, never used the travel handle. I used a regular Tech handle and don't recall any issues other than normal caution.
