A busy day around the homestead today. With Maya's graduation tonight, we have family and friends coming in this afternoon. For me that means a short day at the office and then home to make sure everything is ready. A nice relaxing shave is the perfect way to start the day. Fortunately the hardware and software delivered the goods. The Soapy Science was easy to load and lather. Taking my time adding water yielded a very slick and protective lather. I really enjoy the citrus scent. Three passes and touch ups ended in a near perfect shave. The post shave feel from the soap is some of the best I can recall. A splash of witch hazel followed by F&C Capri and I am ready for the big day. I hope everyone has a great Thursday.

Before my accident, I was revisiting my first cart shavers and seeing how they did now. I got a good shave off the Trac II and was going to try the pivoting head SensorExcell. Today I returned to that schedule and shaved with the cart.

The Vitos is definitely on its last legs and the Soap Destroyer helped push it along another step closer to doom. In the end, my seat was feeling a little wobbly and insecure so I only did a single pass, diagonally WTG on my face and ATG on my neck. That was enough for the twin-blade cart to render a DFS.

I wanted something cheerful and different for the finish, so I went with a pure lavender balm. It topped off a pleasant shave.

My conclusion: with a good lather created by a quality brush from quality soap, and with proper attention to riding the cap, applying light pressure, and skin stretching, I can get a perfectly adequate shave from a twin-blade cart. Whether the head pivots or not doesn't matter. I don’t see how another one to three blades in the cart is going to make the shave any closer, and I still object to the waste inherent in the disposable plastic, but I can see myself using this in future as part of an air travel setup. A Trac II or SensorExcell with a couple carts, a stick of Arko, a synthetic brush and a small spritz tube of witch hazel would give a good, compact TSA-friendly kit.

That's where I'm headed - purposeful, rather than spurious. I've got enough of everything but some holes to fill to complete certain sets.

Meh, if the internet shut down I could shave for a long time from the supplies already gathered. I don't need that 3pc Star DE even though it has an interesting handle. There's a crusty pair of adjustable Gillettes I've passed up twice & a vintage ivory color handled brush that I just don't need right now.

I'd solicit Enablers opinions on alcohol based sandalwood aftershaves. Seems there's two main catagories; natural E.O. or artificial based scent. Proraso Red is an obvious choice since I have the tubbed soap & it's supposed to be E.O. flavored. Another option is TSD splash and it's fragrance oil. Anyone with sandalwood experience care to share? I'd like to know if you have a soap & AS combo that works for you.

I really like Stirling Sandalwood soap and AS, probably a bit better than Proraso Red, but that is good too. PAA has some interesting Sandalwood offerings as well.

Good evening friends! A lot of nice shaves today!

I had a nice shave this evening, DFS. I tried rinsing the witch hazel off after rinsing my brush and bowl, the scent still overpowers the soap and aftershave. Unfortunate because I like the soothing effect and the face feel.
Jeeves is a nice slick soap, I like it. I really can't comment on the scent of the aftershave, all I smell is the tea tree witch hazel.

I took the handle from my Gillette Old Style and switched it to the Simplex. Grabbed the Zapped Mutton soap since I haven't had the pleasure for awhile and the JR54. Fantastic lather. The mutton tallow really has a great feel to it. Especially after the shave.

The longer handle does make a difference, though the razor will never be in my top 5 list. It's a decent shaver, actually pretty darned good for one out of a vending machine and would be a good choice for travel/camping. A basic setup/minimalist would be a good fit as well. The finish was a decent DFS with no blood thanks to the longer handle allowing me to not overthink and over adjust like last night. No complaints and it's a fun one to play with.

Speaking of basic/minimalist setups - we had a discussion awhile back about a month dedicated to the "cheap gear". You know - starter stuff. Basic setups. We have just over a week to go in MAYhem and I am declaring "Just the Basics June"! Should be fun to see what we all can bring to the den for a month of basic/starter/cheap shaves. June is a good month to go back to the basics as it's 6 months from Decadent December! Another week and a day of bringing the MAYhem before we get there so let's keep it coming!

Two nicks, a weeper and for some daft reason did an extra bit on my neck so a small rash patch - brain was in neutral this morning. Post shave remedials fixed everything however and a couple of hours later I look fine.

The longevity count so far
Merkur Futur - 3 pass shave and clean up lasted well to about 5pm, by later evening growth coming through. Post shave alum felt good.
Muhle R41 -3 pass shave and clean up, felt good up to abut 7ish. Post shave alum a bit tingly in places
Merkur 33C - 3 pass shave. Lasted to 5sih maybe a little longer. Post shave alum was spot on
Ottoman - 3 pass shave but had a Feather in this one instead of Astra. Brainfail on my part. Post shave alum = stingy in places lol, sure woke me up. I'll re-run this one with an Astra at the end of the cycle.

I have the Thayers rose, lavender and cucumber. To my nose the scent is gone within a few minutes. I'm assuming it's the smell of the tea tree oil that I find unpleasant.

It is a big day for Maya. Both my wife and I are proud of her. We will have to adjust to being empty nesters very soon.

That could be the case. I think it might be the scent strength of the Stirling product.
