  1. Screwtape

    Screwtape A Shaving Butterfly

Friday night May 24 near the witching hour - cart tests contd.

    Gillette SensorExcell (2)
JR #276 white ash and boar brush
    Vitos Eucalyptus shaving cream
    Alum and Florida Water

I decided to return to my plan to see how many shaves I could get from a twin-blade cart. The Jayaruh boar continued to nibble the Vitos cream to death and provided the usual decent lather from it. I did a "one and done" pass with the cart while following the 30DC Mantra and came out somewhere between CCS and DFS with dead silent alum. The Florida Water provided a cheery finish.

My sense is that I don’t get quite as close a shave from the cart as I would from a razor blade razor. To do so, I would need to start adding pressure and therefore irritation. However, the result is certainly good enough for almost any social purpose.

The cart feels fine with two shaves on it; I wonder if I can get a week. For that matter, I have one of those razor cart resharpeners around here somewhere. I wonder if it actually works and how long it could stretch a cart...

    Detour Week Day #5
Razor : Fatip Gentile (the closed comb)
    Blade: Feather
    Soap: Arko
    Brush: Rocky Mountain
    Balm / Aftershave : Speick / Farenheit

A perfect shave this morning, the lather was spot on, best ever. I had time. Three passes, tiny clean up, no nicks or ruffles. BBS achieved with what I can only term languid ease. Even Farenheit smells nicer than usual this morning. I hope everyone gets to start the day like this today :)

    The longevity count so far
Merkur Futur - 3 pass shave and clean up lasted well to about 5pm, by later evening growth coming through. Post shave alum felt good.
Muhle R41 -3 pass shave and clean up, felt good up to abut 7ish. Post shave alum a bit tingly in places
Merkur 33C - 3 pass shave. Lasted to 5sih maybe a little longer. Post shave alum was spot on
Ottoman - 3 pass shave. Lasted through to 5ish but a tiny bit rougher at 5pm than the 33C
Fatip Gentile - 3 pass shave, feels utterly awesome and gauntlet thrown down well and truly to the Fatip OC which will go tomorrow.

That is really to bad. Hope they had a dance or something so they could enjoy the evening. I'm sure you are a proud Father. Rain can never wash that away.

Thank you Doug. After a rain delay of about 30 minutes, they were able to get the graduation ceremony completed. The kids looked like wet rats but were very happy as were their parents. Overall the evening was a success. I told Maya when she is old and gray like me, she will still remember the night.

Happy Friday! What a week. What a night. A relaxing drama free shave is just the ticket I needed this morning. It is nice to have hardware and software that just work on autopilot. The Fine soap is easy to load and lather. I have actually come to enjoy the scent. My biggest complaint with the soap is the film it leaves behind on everything. Oh well you can't have everything. Three passes and touch ups along my jawline and lower neck ended just short of a BBS. Really not worth buffing my neck this morning. I hope everyone has a great Friday.

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Personna
Razor: Supply injector - two dot plate
    Brush: Omega 10049 boar
    Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave

Nice shave with The Fat and the Supply injector. You must find the exact angle with this and then completely lock your wrist. There can be no variation in that angle whatsoever if you want to cut whiskers. There is some play with the Schicks and you can move your wrist around a little, but not with this one. It's been interesting and fun to play around with this razor. I'll keep at it.

But, my next few shaves will be on the road. I'm bringing some Stirling Grapefruit soap and Lemon Chill splash, J1 injector and synthetic brush. Headed to the Gulf Coast today after my final check-out with the boss. It'll be rainy and stormy on the coast this weekend, but it's still nice to get away. I'll check in and post as I can.

    Have a great day!

Well, there's also this soap which supposedly combines all the fun of Marvy with the smell of The Veg!

    Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap
    Schick Platinum
    Gillette Nacet
    Cella of Hagen Street
    Stirling Boar (24mm, Frigate Class)
Baxter Of California Shave Tonic & ASB

Yesterday I combined an ounce of Van Der Hagen Deluxe, a half ounce of Cella and a third ounce sample of Jeeves Conservatory to make the Cella of Hagen Street soap.Lathered it up this morning and got mostly Cella, but it made an amazingly creamy slick lather. Applied it to my face with the big Stirling boar and wiped away lather and whiskers with a somewhat rare Schick DE, The Platinum. The Platinum was Schick's last stab at the DE market as cartridge razors were beginning to gain popularity in the early 1970's. The head geometry is pretty much identical to the Krona, which makes it a fantastic mild shaver. Paired with a nice sharp blade (it CAN cut an alligator in half you know) I did three passes and decided to chase the baby with some touch-ups. With the baby firmly in hand I finished with the Baxter Duo for my daily dose of menthol. Have a great long weekend everyone!!

This morning the Jayaruh #59 and Stoylin Glacial Wintergreen were in great union with each other. As I added the Clubman Reserve Gent's Gin(he coldest of the "new 3)I began to wonder how Jeff can pile cold on cold on cold...to me, I could get the Clubman scent, but my face was too cold already to realize that another cold product had been added.
