what the best modern cartridge razor ? Gillette Fusion , Gillette Fusion Proglide , Gillette Fusion Proshield, Gillette Mach 3, Gillette Mach 3 Turbo, Schick Quattro, Schick Hydro 5 Sense, Schick Hydro 3 Please give your opinion and why you think he's the best... Thank you very much !
Two blade Dorco for me. Perfect combo of cost, availability and efficiency. If money were no object, Fusion Proglide.
The 4 blade Dorco is pretty good too. I really dislike the Pivot mechanism on the M3 and Fusions. I prefer the disposable Custom Plus 3 and Sensor 3 to either the M3 or Fusion. Of course you can still get Trac II/ Atra cartidges.
Voted M3, as it's the least worse of the Gillettes (don't know the others). I preferred the Sensor Excel (2 blade, tad better grip then the regular Sensor), the more blades they added, the worse the shave got for me. The load of blades (more), together with price (higher) and result (worse) was the main reason I switched to DE, wanted to try 1 blade... best result ever, even before I learned to improve my technique here. (with the technique improvements I even have less cuts then with the cartridge razors)
I vote Gillette Guard, followed by the Trac II. Sadly, the only razor in your list that I've tried was the Mach 3...and it led me to traditional wet shaving, as I was looking for better alternatives. I haven't bothered with a modern style razor since. I will say that my wife likes the Dollar shave club razor. Not sure if it's four or five blades.
The only two on the list I haven't tried are the Proglide and Proshield. That being said, my favorite is the Bic Hybrid. It gave better shaves, for me anyway, than the others. Besides being very inexpensive, and with a new handle with the blades, it's the only one that gave me damn near BBS shaves without irritation. And I would still use it if I wanted to take one on trips and not worry about losing a razor.
I can. In The Netherlands you can't find any real razors in the shops, only cartridge and electric, unless you start hunting down the specialist shops. What I can't believe is that people who found this forum and still fork over cash for cartridges. I just bought me 200 feather blades for 40 euro including shipping. (previous batch was 35 euro for 100, I'm getting better in hunting down the nicely priced blades) I just checked the price of mach 3 blades, 16 euro per 5, and I'd want to toss them out after a week. That'll result in 3.20 euro per week on blades, instead of 0.20. When I've used the 200 blades (40 euro) the mach 3 user will have spend 640 euro on blades. (or had an uncomfortable shave when using the blades longer then a week) The 600 euro difference with the regular price of the Mach 3 blades makes up the 105 euro I spend in 2 days on razors. (Buying the Mach 3 blades at a discount, usually 10,= per 5, drops the cost on blades for 200 weeks to 400 euro) And I have to admit, since switching from cartridges to DE, my shave is smoother, even before I imptoved my technique.
in the western world many just follow what was available since the eighties.most of my elders used electrics.
A straigth, a strop and a hone and you are set for a few decades,... They say Untill you start finding excuses to buy new razors !
They say the same of buying a Volvo, mechanical watch, audio player that can play mp3, ... All hobbies that got out of hand here. (Have multiple cars, most Volvo's, a box of mechanical watches CD/LP/<insert any made format for audio>,... BTW mastering the technique with a DE will take a bit of time, maybe, someday, a straight will come into the picture. (but for now, the DEs will do)
