I started working on these brushes today. The first two are spalted something and the second two are oak. I did the first two together, and I made a mistake in the measurements so they are shorter than I had intended. The last two are what I was aiming for. I was too close to the work to see my mistake. Oh well. They will still be serviceable brushes. I used the four synthetic knots I have for these pictures. Next, I will be sealing and clear coating with polycrylic. Then, I will brand them and set the knots.

They will be JR#288 through JR#291 when they are finished.

Spalted tamarind. I think this knot really makes this handle pop.

Spalted Tamarind with the timberwolf synthetic. I think the color matches this handle, too.

    Oak with the Cashmere synthetic.

You're making it harder and harder for someone to pick their favorite style. But I do like #288 and #290, nice job Jim.

The spalted brushes look great for a mistake. I like smaller handle brushes.

As usual, the brushes look great Jim All look great but I particularly like the way you matched knot colors with the the color of the grain in the wood on 288 and 289.

I have two coats of polycrylic on the handles. I marked them with their numbers, but I have not engraved and painted the numbers yet. I will do that later today. So, in the mean time, I took these pictures.

How does one go about (a) getting one of the fabulous brushes (400 handle in particular) and (b) becoming a JROC member?

    1. Welcome to TSD. Go to the Welcome Center and introduce yourself for a proper welcome. 2. We can work out something through PMs. I will initiate. 3. Adopting a JR brush will make you a JROC member in good standing.

Jim are the knots set permanently in these handles? I really like #288 but am thinking about a different knot. Are these drilled for 24mm knots ?
