I’m in for June. Just not completely sure how I’ll interpret Just the Basics June or how long until it becomes Just for Fun June. Anyway, in honour of the basics, the EJ 89 was my first DE purchase along with a blade sampler to go with it from Fendrihan. This blade emerged as my first ‘fave’. An IB order fairly soon after netted me this soap and a few others. I’d used a brush and soaps/creams for a few years with a cart, but this set up returns me to the first months of my DE experience. This brush isn’t the first one I bought after starting with a DE (that handle was smashed to extract the WD badger), but this is the first handle I made 18 months ago or so.
This was a fine 2 pass shave this morning. Everything worked as it should and I finished off with a little Spice balm even though I think my only post shave product for those first few months was Thayers.
Anyway, I’ll try to stick to some ‘firsts’ for a nostalgic first week or so of Just the Basics June.
    Have a great day all!

Awesome set up, Jim! Where does the GLSq rate for you so far? Still prefer Unconditional Surrender?

The soap sounds fantastic, Clint! I had the Felce Aromatica a while back as a bar soap and knew I’d get it as a shave soap. I’m very excited by your high praise for it.

    SOTD June 1, 2018

Prep: Cold water and Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: Schick Proline AC
    Razor: RazoRock Black Hawk
    Brush: Omega 10049 boar
    Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend aftershave

Wow - great way to begin the month. Smooth and comfortable shave with the Black Hawk. Really enjoyable. Haven't used this razor in a few weeks and was reminded of why I like it. Really nice overall.

Looking forward to a great month!

Not sure what category this is, but in addition to an "all lavender" line-up, I will only use razors manufactured before 1940.

Very well written report Jason. I see a lot of your DE journey in just one post. As usual another excellent photo as well.

I would have ordered both the Felce and Opuntia LE if the latter were available. I guess Opuntia being out of stock saved me from myself. If a person likes fougere scent then this one is a very good one. The fact that the soap is triple milled means it should last a very long time.

Great photo, Clint. Please hold off on the making me want to buy more soaps until I use up at least 10 more of mine.
Your pictures are always awesome, Jim.
    love that brush, Jason.

This looks awesome in black and white.

Great photo, and awesome focus. I have enough lavender based soaps I could do the same. Curious if you have tried Dr. Jon’s Flowers In The Dark?

I used the Clubman Reserve Gent's Gin today. Thus far, I'm not sure it passes the "Humidity test"(see my SOTD). Perhaps it would earn a higher grade with a cold soap or cream. Barbasol may not be the best with it. Will use a colder cream/soap with the GG next time.

I am doing a Squirrel Focus this month. That means I won't be focusing on anything. I will still keep using one soap every other shave until it is gone. I will be getting all four of my Kamisoris honed this month, but don't know if they will be back in time to just use them. That may be July. I have not been using my straights a lot, and hope to get more time with them. Other than that, wide open. Looking forward to trying to keep up with the thread this month, and doing a little more planning for the meet up. (Should have some info on the LE Soap and Splash, along with pre-order info soon.)

Will do Adam. I am trying to knock another 5-6 soaps off before the end of the year as well. In a perfect world I like to only have 10-15 soaps in the den at a time.
