Great photos, setups, and reports Jared! I hope you recovered from the party last evening. I’m guessing you did, considering you used a shavette today.

Just the Basics June/Just for Fun June - take your pick

    June 3

Razor - Van Der Hagen TTO
    Blade - Generic Personna - Walgreen's version
Soap - Van Der Hagen Scented Luxury
    Brush - Omega Pro 48
Post - Alum, Stetson (Monday morning)

Well water is an amazing thing. We have to drink it or we die. It cools us off in the summer (we have a very nice pool in the complex here). It cleans up messes. It falls from the sky at random times and we call it rain. And - when you use enough of it - VDH Scented Luxury soap makes a pretty decent lather! I attacked it with a serious effort tonight, using the Omega Pro 48 well soaked and ready to go. Left the brush a bit wetter than usual and beat the puck until it gave up a nice lather in the bowl and it got better during the face lather. It's a slick lather, although I'd call it "viscous slick". But it was cushy enough to deliver a really nice feel through three passes and I did arrive at BBS in those three passes. How about the, eh? Cheap razor, cheap blade, cheap soap and a decent brush gets it done! Basically, a basic setup for a basic shave that proves that focusing on basics basically delivers!

    Monday shave

This razor is in need of touch up, sharp enough to get a good shave but no way I could go for epic with this edge. It will be refreshed the next time I pull out the stones. I switched out my frags and soaps for the summer editions. I forgot about this tub of Arlington, it smells great and has about 1/3 left so it will join the focus on finishing off soaps.

A great shave to start off the week. Tranquility scent is a peppermint over a base of lavender which is very similar to Oxford & Cambridge. The scent strength is stronger and I get a cooling sensation from the peppermint. Color me impressed with the New Short Comb. I went with a modified 2 pass shave starting with ATG followed by XTG. The New SC delivered the goods. With touch ups along the jawline and lower neck, I easily caught the baby. I would rate this as an Epic Shave. A splash of Fine Lavender and I am ready for the day. I hope everyone has a great Monday.

After a great weekend with my wife, I took her home, dropped her off, and repacked my bag for another trip. I am in College Station attending fire school, so it will be a busy week for me. I grabbed this razor, which I hardly ever use. It is a decent shaver, and I got a DFS on two passes. A pretty nice start to this week. I hope everyone has a great day!

    Mystic Water~~Mondial~~Gillette New SC~~Personna 74~~Fine
Mystic Water has the unfortunate reputation for being difficult to lather. I don't share this opinion.
Michelle's lavender is unadulterated and without compromise. Slick, cushiony and a post-shave second to none.

I am preferring it over the Chatillon Lux. The Mondial Boar, except for the cheapo decal, is one of my favorite boar brushes.
The handle borders on too large, but serviceable, the knot is superb and is already nicely broken in.
I can't wait to see where it is after 30+ shaves.
This is my third shave with the Gillette SC. There seems to be more blade exposure than my Senator.
The head has a nice design, allowing for easy maneuverability.

I am expecting a Sheraton to be delivered today, and am looking forward to making comparisons.
Fine Lavender is a great way to finish off a nice shave.

Thanks for the commentary on MW. My current Block Soap(Hand) is the Lavender scent. I like it. Block is an artisan soap, by the way.

Great shave Primo. MW Lavender is such great scent for those that like lavender. As you noted the soap really delivers during and after the shave.

Clint, do you find that the $7.00 shipping price is well worth-it, given what you get? From what you and Primo said, it probably is.

If you buy one soap the shipping is $4 A tub of her soap is under $12. So yes I do think that is a fair value. If you are going to buy more than 1 soap then buy several to spread the cost out over more items. For example my friend Wade and I make our Mystic Water soap orders together and get 4-6 soaps at a time. Bullgoose, Maggard's and most vendors charge a shipping of around $6-7 until you spend a certain amount of money. The vendor either has to be honest and charge shipping as a line item on the invoice or bury the costs of shipping in the price of their product. Either way we are paying shipping.
