  1. What I love about this thread:

    1) 3 years, all kinds of guys, zero dramatics.
    2) Vets and Newcomers work together
    3) People have fun
    4) shenanigans!!!!

I would write cookies, but then we'd finally have to share them with @BaylorGator. ;)

...didn't shave today either, too tired again.

But, how about a Monday Funk Break?

    Sure you do.

Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado.

    Have a terrific Tuesday!

    ;)
  2. Wow. That is a beautiful send off. I want my ashes scattered in the Green Mountains.

  3. The ATT H plate has a .91mm gap. With the Le Coq it's all about a flat head geometry with positive exposure

  4. Another beautiful brush, Andrew. How many Yaqis did you end up with?
Another great Rick Pic, complete with informative write up!
You bought the Clubman ‘on the cheap’, Patrick? Is there a chain in Canada you have found it in? Awesome dedicated combo.
How is the Eleven, Bruce? Super photo, anyway.
Love the SDM, Jim! Great scents.
I’ve never heard of the Tabarome, Keith. A fave?

  6. From the parts of Colorado I’ve been to, it’s beautiful country. I’d also love to move there, but I fear that would require a divorce. I’m sure part of your trip will indeed be quite tough. Try to keep in mind that she’ll be smiling down on you. Visiting with your family will be a highlight. Cherish the happy memories. They get you through the tough times.

  7. Gotcha! Flatter geometry does add to the degree of difficulty with any razor. It's why I never say Tech to a brand newbie. The sweet spot on a large radius cap like a Tech makes the effective angular sweet spot quite narrow in practice.
  8. General Announcement:

Colorado is the most awful place in the world.

    Everyone hates it.

    Do not move here.

    ;)

    Carry on.
  9. Shark Alert! You just found tomorrow's blade for me!
  10. Nice to see both of those razors, but the Feather SS in straight razor form made me smile.
  11. Thanks Jason . Got it at Sally beauty supply here in town. My girlfriend has a member card which gave me a little discount also. Was about 12 bucks total I'm thinking after the taxman got his share . Cheapest place ive found it yet.
  12. Just the Basics June/Just for Fun June - take your pick

    Razor - Gillette Tech
    Blade - treet-carbon-steel.jpg (1)
Soap - Van Der Hagen Deluxe
    Brush - VDH Boar
Post - Alum, AV Musk (Tuesday morning)

After three shaves on the VDH razor it's time to stay basic and go classic. The Gillette Tech is up and I'm matching it to the Treet Double Edge blade, better known as the Black Beauty. It is, of course, a carbon blade and a very nice one at that. I'm moving from the Luxury VDH soap to the Deluxe and using the VDH boar tonight. The brush in the picture is the brand new brush. I actually used mine that is 4 years old and came with my first puck of VDH Deluxe soap.

I'm sure that my three days figuring out the Luxury soap helped in lathering this one so quickly, but I remember the Deluxe as always being easy to load and lather. Added a little water, loaded in the bowl and got a very nice and slick lather. It feels a touch slicker than the Luxury but, again, that may be my prejudice from having used the Deluxe before.

To get the best shave with the Treet carbon blade you need to take your time and enjoy the experience. It's a bit noisy with a nice tactile feel, but smooth. It isn't as sharp as a stainless edge but it's sharp for a carbon. Give it three full passes and just enjoy the zen and you end up with a very nice DFS, which is what I did. I'm all set for the rest of the evening and I'll look great in the morning as well.

I've been a bit lax on responses and such the past few days but have been getting on a new diet and medication regimen. I think I'm about set and that should give me time and energy to dive back in as the summer starts around here. I'll get caught up and we'll throw a shenanigan or two in the way as well! Hope your week got off to a good start today.

  13. That would classify as one of my favorite type shaves on here. PIF's gear and a cheap AS - that's right to the heart of what and who we are here. Sure we like the luxury stuff. Or even the mid-range stuff. But gear that shaving buddies gave us and a classic AS just makes it so much better.
  14. That's an awesome looking picture. With a fantastic razor and blade front and center. Forget the focus or rule - you nailed it.
  15. I'll add cookies. The boys still have @BaylorGator under surveillance in case of a further cookie uprising. They'll handle him. They're in top form.
