I bought a dscosmetic 26mm Galaxy resin handle 2 band silvertip badger hair shaving brush today,it is said that it is one of the three major shaving brush brand in China. Do anyone use it? How about it?
Welcome @scotte! Good First Post on your part - you stirred up conversation. Some of the brush photos remind me of Yaqi brand handles. Is it the same manufacturer? That's where I have had issues with badger brushes. Trying to balance backbone and scrubbiness with flop and pillowy softness. If someone would invent a handle that allowed loft adjustment on the fly it would conquer my apprehension at investing in a "nice" badger knot.
There you go, an adjustable shaving brush. I can see a nickel plated brass ring, with numbers 1-9 just like a Fatboy! You just dial in your level of "scrubbiness"!
Wouldn't be that hard, inner and outer sleeve, threads. Those would be better performers if set in the 55~57mm loft range, IMHO.
A "rule of thumb" about badger knots? I've heard when setting loft on a replacement (or shopping a brush) you get better backbone if the loft is no more than twice the diameter. Density of the fibers is important, too. That whole "natural product" variable of each individual hair depends on so many factors like time of year it was harvested, and if that particular critter had naturally fat hair shafts. It's up to the brush maker to turn that hair into a functional knot.
Well that explains the floppy performance of my Vulfix 2006. It has a 22mm knot and a 50mm loft. Just can't use the darn thing. Zero backbone.
That's how I felt about two Vulfix brushes. Besides not being as tightly packed, the loft was factory set at taller than twice the diameter. By "choking up" on the knot it's possible to load hard soap. Still have a floppy paint brush when applying lather. Almost spoiled my opinion of badgers in general. Since then I've acquired two knots set deeper, and made by other folks. A Whipped Dog High Mountain , and a Virginia Sheng (?) pure black. Much better, although nothing like a boar or synthetic for backbone.
The OP is AWOL, but those brushes are from https://www.aliexpress.com/item/dsc...ip-badger-hair-shaving-brush/32847417581.html
