I have been thinking of making a wooden razor for a long time. So, yesterday, all that thinking came to life. I used some scrap wood I had on hand. The handle was made of two types of wood laminated together for this purpose. I actually shaved with the razor this morning. I did the first pass with it and then finished up with my Damaskeene OC razor. I will do a full shave with the wooden razor tomorrow and make a video.

I started by making the teeth.

Using an old blade, I marked off boundaries and did some dremmel work on the teeth.

Here I am gluing up the head with the handle.

I could not figure an efficient way to hold the blade, so I opted for a bulldog clip. I do have razor stops, but I needed to secure the razor to keep it flat.

Here it is after two coats of polycrylic.

I don't know whether to be awed or really scared. So... video or it didn't happen.

I will do a full report tomorrow. I think I am going to shorten the teeth today and bring in the sides a bit.

Lord willing, you will get your video tomorrow. I will do a full shave then. Today's first pass was veddy nice. I just had a little trouble getting under my nose. If I had a mustache, it would have been no issue, but I must shave under my nose. Finished up with my Frankendammy OC.

Update: I took a little off of each side and shortened the teeth. I also notched the bulldog clamp so it would go onto the blade a little further. These modifications should make it a little easier to get under my nose.

Hands up if you thought that binder clips were just for documents and Doritos bags!

Scared, very scared. I can just see the front of the blade coming loose, on a long stroke, on the neck.

If we don't hear from you after this, well, I guess we will know how this experiment worked out.

Just an idea, but couldn't you use a blind nut just above the screw holding the handle to hold the blade on with another screw.

(edited) Well you know what they say about blind nuts and their squirrels ....

I had thought of something like that, but I wanted to avoid using more screws.

You need to have special clamps made, embossed with 'Jayaruh' and a few logos - for that vintage Kampfe look!
