Just the Basics June/Just for Fun June - take your pick

    June 11
Razor - 1947 Gillette Super Speed
    Blade - rapira-super-stainless.jpg (1)
    Soap - Soap Commander Honor
    Brush - 30 DC LE
    Post - Alum

On to the final sample of Soap Commander for this round. It's Honor up to bat and this is their barbershop scent. To be specific, the website lists the scents as
BERGAMOT, ORANGE, BASIL LEAF, OAKMOSS, PATCHOULI, AROMATIC SPICES, AND HINT OF HONEY AND TOBACCO.

The scent on this one is very nice, if a bit muted. I was expecting a bit more 'oomph" to it, but it's more subtle than Courage or Vision. The performance, of course, is just as good as all of them. I wish I could say exactly what I'm looking for in a scent but it's a very subjective subject, obviously, so I'll just say that for now I'll leave it as "very nice" and "I like it", and we'll see what tomorrow night brings as far as a better feel for it. Stirling Barbershop is one of my favs, so I know I'm comparing to that, which isn't a bad thing. I may have to give them side by side sniff tests to see if I can sort things out a bit more. Again, I like it. Just not sure what to make of it.

The '47 SS did a fine job with the classic Rapira blade. Three passes and the baby is in the house. Quiet alum, and I think I'll splash on some Stetson in the morning before heading out to the salt mine. Have a great night everyone!

Hope the house sale goes well, and isn’t a huge stressor, Perry.

I used the two you sent - the Gem Jr. and the Kampfe Star as well as a 1914 thingie. Notice how I refuse to call it LC. Learned my lesson about that! I will say that the look of the Kampfe is ultimately cool. It also shaves very well and is quite a unique razor to use. I preferred the Gem Jr. by a slight margin in how it shaved and handled overall. Enough that I'm still perusing for one to add to my collection. The other clear winner is the carbon blades. I don't know that I'll ever put a stainless blade into any vintage SE razor again.

A win all the way around!!! I do not get the folks that only use SS blades in a SE. They miss out on the best I think. I have several of the GJB's myself. A favorite with me too.

Morning and a joyous June to y'all.

Back from hols at the weekend but family things had me all over the place.

Anyway, as a result of an old Portuguese barber recommendation, and a decision to finally give the R41 a run for some weeks....here's this morning's shave. Not sure quite how I feel about all the menthol but it sure wakes you up.

Razor : Muhle R41, Ikon OSS handle
    Brush : RM as normal
Soap and Afters, Pro Raso Green
    Alum
