Why do we called it retired? Shouldn't someone be less tired when they stop working?

 

Why do we park in a driveway and drive on a parkway?

 

I imagine by the time I will be able to afford retirement I should be quite tired.

These days I often retire to my shave den for a bit of rejuvenating respite.

 

I love stranded words in English.

Here's one:

Gormless

There is no apparent positive root form of this word left in English.

Maybe we should make gormful a thing?

 

Yes, some of us have quite a bit of gorm.

To be "without gorm" sounds like it'd be a good thing.

 

But, it's not.

 

Alas, 'tis not.

Disgruntled is another one. Apparently, one can't be gruntled.

 

And, while paired and repaired are both words, the one is not always a repetition of the other.

 

I feel gruntled, gusted and sheveled often. Prayer and meditation works.

 

As does exercise for when I am feeling gruntled.

 

You mean Disgruntled? Exercise gruntles you and makes you feel better?

 

Nope.... It just further enhances a good mood as well, but I really like my bike.

 

A very appropriate one for this forum - delivered. As we no longer stamp our "livery" in wax on envelopes, it is technically impossible to have anything delivered these days.
